[sociallocker id=”9722″]Spurs are closing in on signing Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to The Telegraph.

The right-back is out of a contract next season, and earlier indications suggested that Manchester United and Louis van Gaal were leading the race in signing the 24-year-old.

However, the most recent reports regarding the Southampton man point to a move to Tottenham as the north Londoners have been keeping close tabs on Clyne’s contract negotiations with the Saints and United appear to be looking elsewhere to fill their right-back void.

While Mauricio Pochettino already possesses a nice option at right-back in Kyle Walker, the Englishman has failed to produce quality outings since returning from injury earlier this season.

Meanwhile, Clyne has played for Pochettino in the past when the boss was roaming the sidelines for the Saints before moving on to Tottenham.

Clyne was also chosen over Walker as Roy Hodgson’s preferred right-back for the England national team.
