Prematch Prattle Yanited Away

Good morning my dears.

It’s been a very long time since Spurs won at Old Trafford. In fact some of the very fresh faced amongst you weren’t even born.

It’s a crumb of comfort that we frequently play some of our brightest football against Manure, but all too frequently walk away pointless.

The set up isn’t a complicated one. We are seemingly incapable of scoring via our strikers. My fear is that we don’t have a more sophisticated plan than knock downs from 3MP. If that is Arry’s strategy then…

Hernandez is rapidly entering territory whereby folk will be calling him free-scoring. The rat faced Bulgarian’s form has improved. whether the little rodent can ‘do it’ against us will itself be the cause of at least four and and half thousand Saturday night headlines.

Let’s have a look at the betting eyecatchers…

Bale and Crouch seem long prices for anytime goalscorer. 4/1 and 3/1 respectively. Long shot of long shots – Spurs to win with a long shot 17/2. Cautiously optimistic would describe an away win by the margin of just one goal and that vends at 11/2 which suddenly looks like a sensible place to head for.

We’ve missed Hudd badly over the last couple of games: he is what makes us tick…

He sets the tempo, provides the passing platform and variation of long and short balls… he will always receive from the Centre Halves, even in very tight areas and almost always is able to turn and play a forward pass…

Without him, we just end up passing the ball endlessly along the back four: it’s like we’ve regressed about 4-5 years…

    Rant over…

Yes. Huddlestone is missed. Yesterday certainly adds weight to the argument against those doubters, who know who they are  :cop:

    Re Clatten-shite (or “Mark 2”)

If he didn’t see it, the linesman did, so the foul stands.

However, as he overruled the linesman, he must have seen it and “played on”…

…but, “playing on” is only supposed to occur when the fouled against team is in an advantageous position…

…which is virtually impossible when the ball is in your own penalty area.

Finally, having “played on”, as soon as Clatten-shite saw that Spurs had not (in fact) gained any advantage (ie immediately: the ball hadn’t even been played by a Spurs player), he should have brought it back for the foul.

In sum: a total farce; who knows what could have happened at 1-0; frankly, despite a lack of clear chances, it’s certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that a late equaliser was on the cards…

    Rant #2 over.

I have thought this through with a lot of agonizing and hard analysis and weighed the last few games we have played against top teams and have come to the conclusion that you dont really need a top top striker to be successful but you do need a toptop diver to make the free kicks on the edge of the box ,penalties and getting the other teams players booked or sent off.I think we are naive.the real result today would have been 0-0.

Darren Bent has scored 5. I’m tempted to back him to score first against the barcodes.

Our Manager is a superstar though, isn’t he? Playing Lennon, Keane, J****.

    Brilliant.

I thought Modric was weak in the main too yesterday. As in, brittle. Thought I’d add that. Nobody seems to have mentioned it, but I for one thought he didn’t have a very good game. For one of our better players I would have hoped for a more positive contribution.
