Bolton Autopsy

As Wazza Rooney off to a luxury stateside boot camp for conditioning it raises the question if Levy could get a group rate.

Alternatively, Spur players might want to give blogs and websites a go. It was difficult to find a single online piece that didn’t suggest they routinely taking their foot off the gas after a stellar performance and Bolton might well – at home and in good form – be up for doing ’em.

The game looked evenly balanced for a bit but that was a period of false remission. Turned out Bolton just needed a while to warm up.

Here’s some player ratings then.

Gomes As good as the back four in front of him. So shakey then. 4

Begbie Listless and hungover looking until he scored. Whodathunkit? 6

Gallas Got nothing right yesterday. Got much wrong. Bad signing. 3

Kaboul Back to being a trainee carthorse. 4

A&E Flashes of mediocrity unforgivably stupid penalty. 3

Sandro Off the pace is about as kind as I feel like being. 5

Palacios Hasn’t been the same since the funeral. 5

Huddlestone His fouls are becoming ‘anti football’ maybe he needs to be sold to Stoke. 5

Modders Contributed less and less as time went on. Depressing. 5

Krankie Rusty? Dusty? Not a fine performance. 5

Bentley Couple of good runs. Perhaps ought to have started. 6

Bale They double up’d on him, he still hit the post. His value sank to £49M. 7

3MP All the grace and usefulness of an ironing board collapsing. 4

Pav Came on and scored a goal that in any other game would have been historic. 7

the knee jerkers are out in force again.
yeh, we played poorly but im going to give credit to bolton for chasing every ball, and wanting it more; plus they have some players with real quality. These arent the sons of Allardyce cloggers of old. Owen Coyle deserves a hell of a lot of credit for transforming their style. It’s just one game. a few days ago, they were all heroes. Its football, shit happens. the dynamic of the team doesnt change on a game by game basis. we also had VDV, Lennon, Defoe, King, Daws out and a half fit Hudd. All starters. Onwards and upwards, COYS

Took my daughter to her first Spurs game and witnessed that.

Normally we don’t start playing until we are one down, yesterday it was three.

Bale was doing the business even though they doubled up on him, but there was no one on the end of them.

Says it all when it took a full back to break through.

Just hope my daughter hasn’t been scarred by this experience – social services will be round on Monday.

Well, we need a captain (a real captain not Modders, Ledley, Daws, Hudd, Keane, or Jenas 0r anyone else who has captained us this season – there is absolutely noone on that list (or at the club) with the blend of ability, grit, aggression, know-how and scariness to be the first name on the teamsheet and get everyone else to buck theit effing ideas up. Until we get that man in our performances will fluctuate from the sublime to the ridiculous. Van Bommel (dirty c*nt) has been mentioned as gettable – if he isnt past it he might be the ideal type.We have a lot of talent in the squad but players like BAE could do with someone who is prepared to grab them by the throat when they let the team down.

Obviously we need a striker and none of us knows who was really responsible for us not getting one in the summer. Hopefully we wont make that mistake this window.

We dont need to sack the manager, as long as he learns from his mistakes.

We do need to be prepared to take a loss on players that just arent good enough and move on, Mr Levy.

We need to stay positive (miraculously we are still not far off 4th place.

One question I would like to ask Harry Redknap and his so called back up team is when the hell are they going to do their home work on 33 year old Davies.Season after season this player seems to stroll round the Reebok at will and scoring against us. Surely there must be somebody in our ranks who can stop this bastard, double up if needbe. Furthermore urgently need a class center back Hangerland may be the answer also a 20 goal striker to partner Defoe. Also need to get rid of all the dead wood, namely Keen, Gallas, Bentley, Kran Captin Wilson,CROUTCH,Bassong. These are just average or just want out of our great club

ive just decided, i blame the players.
Yes redknapp made some changes but if he cant rely on his depth in resources then what is he supposed to do?
We had this game yesterday, we have sunderland on tuesday and then another game on the weekend.
I didtn realise that until today.
I dont know how we show great character last season with essentialy the same players to beat cheatski and le arse and man city and then do this. we went on to lose 4 – 2 to burnley last game of the season wiht ledley playing even.

Maybe we’re ironing out the spurs of the past slowly but surely.
For years we have been a team that brings you such europhoria but then lets you down inexplicably.
To be fair, i have seen more euphoria in recent times, wth probably a little less of the letting down. It just looks worse because of the contrast.

Can we expect a football club to iron out bad habits in a season or two? With a squad that is learning?
I know yesterday i said i dont want to hear any excuses and there is no excuse for the dross that was yesterday but im trying to console myself and perhaps keep a perspective of the bigger picture.

    Still ANGRY though. :pinch:

      good points there SL

We missed Thudd; I keep saying it but it did look a bit “uncreative” without him and/or VDV. As you say though we have another game tomorrow and we have to keep our “fringe” players match fit. Perhaps going out of the Carling Cup has caused us more of a headache in that respect. Still the FA Cup starts soon :dizzy2:

On paper there should have been enough quality there to get at least a point. Sandro probably never got a shout for the first goal but at that level he should know he needs to move the ball quicker

      Keep the faith
