Bentley To Brum Beckham To Come

David Bentley’s having a medical.  Ang on, we’ve been here before…

Clearly the impending arrival of Sir David Of Beckham has triggered Levy & Co to give the green light for someone else to give the boy Bentley a go.

The Beckham signing will be a charm. No two ways about it. Unless he gets caught doing something despicable then Mickey Hazard’s replacement will be a runaway success. All the bleating about ‘the Beckham circus’ and supposed threat to the squad’s harmony will be proved to be the clucking of wet hens.

That Bentley off is a not a pity. He has failed to achieve all what was threatened. It remains a pity that he didn’t succeed but his ‘Friday morning injuries’ are no longer our concern.

    Crouch has certain uses:

    1. Defending set pieces. He takes up space in the box and makes things hard for the other team. His poor heading doesn’t matter so much because he can at least get to the ball and knock it….somewhere. Away from goal anyway.

    2. Extra defense when we’re seeing out a game. I feel quite good about bringing Crouch in when we’re a goal up and 15 minutes left. Again, he’ll at least get his head to the ball and knock it away.

    3. Europe. While English teams have sussed Pete out, Europe have never seen such a freak and have no idea how to play him.

So, while I don’t want Crouch starting in the league, he has his uses as the 4th choice striker.

Would say that is a pretty good summary. Get a bit bored with saying it but as we all know we need at least one new striker and imo a midfielder like Lassana Diarra who can do the simple things well. He would combine the best bits of Sarge and JJ without their weaknesses. Would still not be surprised if we get him in on loan and possibly Benzema or Adebayor. It may be that Adebayor ends up at Real Madrid and Benzema comes to us. Here`s hoping!

This is my opinion as well, pretty much to the letter.

    Mystic Stranger
You should stick to talking about Labradors…

£80k a week. 10 games max? Start him? Every game? Or will he also be used sparingly like Gudjohnsen?

    In ‘Arry blah blah

    For some reason I cant directly respond to your message above;

    So,

    1. Where did I say start him every game…..I didnt
    2. What harm did Gudj do to us MS?….are you even suggesting he wasnt worth a wank?
    3. Do you want Arry out then?

    • MysteriousStranger says:

You are missing a number of points.

But I shall first isolate your comments to which I replied.

      “I’m with you PL

I don’t see a single negative with Becks joining us. Those with short memories have obviously forgotten what Gudj brought to us last year; BELIEF. Which got us in the CL

shame others don’t appreciate Arrys greater knowledge of football than anyone who posts on here”

and further to this your response to AFelching

“where are we in the league?
where are we in the CL?
where did we finish last season in the PL?
where were we before Arry showed up?

cant wait for your response Felch, cant wait”

      Firstly:

You yourself made a disparaging comment directed at other posters’ comments and opinions. I made a (supposedly) lighthearted comment in response to this which referenced your Labrador discussions as witnessed on previous threads.

Now, to the matter at heart.

Beckham will be available for a maximum of 10 games I believe. His wages will be paid at the rate of £80k p/week. Plus insurance.

His natural position on the field is as a right winger. So, if Bentley was cover for Lennon (DB wasn’t playing much but there you go, not one of Harry’s boys clearly), does Beckham replace Lennon, or does he rot on the bench? Is this a bargain deal? What I’m saying is, what’s the point in spending the best part of £750k on Beckham for such a small period? You think Fergie was talking shit when he questioned the merits of such a deal? And note, I was responding to your saying you couldn’t see a negative. Asking questions. The clue would be the use of question marks? Like that one, there. I never said you said he would start every game, did I? So, relax. But, back to the point – this deal. With Bentley off to Brum on loan we swap

      a) Cover for the season
      for
      b) Cover for 8 weeks.

Oh of course, after Becks goes back to Hollywood Harry’s wonder signing Kranjcar could always do a job from the bench where he has found himself. But he’s not that good on the right. Hutton then? Do a “Bale” with him. OK. That might work…

Now evidently if you had a better memory, you would recall that I was one of those on here that regarded Gudjohnsen highly, and was disappointed that he did not play very much for us, all things considered. I mean how many times did that prick Crouch start ahead of him to play shit?

And if you seriously think Gudj was the reason we started believing it is you yourself who is likely doing Harry an injustice.

I don’t like Harry Redknapp much. Clearly if you are a player in his favour, you will do well. Seems that players with the initials DB would not. Cos Harry didn’t like them much.

There’s no doubt Harry’s appointment coincided nicely with the maturation of players like Bale, and he was surely a good factor in this. I don’t deny as a manager he clearly seems to possess some decent qualities.

I’m not saying he needs sacking. But I do tire of the “In Harry We Trust” sentiments.

So, do you understand now? Is this clear enough for you? I hope so, because I seem to have confronted you at a sensitive time. :daumen:

Seems DB arrival may have more to do with helping us get the OS than his current on field abilities.
If that is the case, do the “Beckham for Spurs” brigade still want him ?
