Blinded By Beckham

Having just finished listening to Arry on the radio and two things strike me. One is that I’m amazed I don’t have a buy a new radio today. Two, is I’m becomingly increasingly worried about our glorious manager.

This Beckham thing seems to have become a fixation. We have bigger fish to fry. Yes Beckham would be a ‘triffic’ addition but it terrifies me that somehow the dismal efforts to bring in the right man/men last month are somehow now being traded off against landing Sir David. In November. That’s jam tomorrow, territory.

When it comes to goals most fans prescribe to the old maxim, ‘a goal is a goal’. Many Tottingham fans (notably in the thick of the Stratford debate) prefer football played the Spurs way. Some wit, some guile , perhaps a dash of flash. Is Redschnapps cooing about Becks relentlessly planting the ball on 3MP’s bonce really what we’re after?

Arry has worked wonders. But are we going to end up being a slick Watford?

Have always believed that HR is not a top-four manager.

Of late, he has given me the strong impression that he doesnt really know what he is doing.

Have to agree, this nonsense with Beckham has gone on for far too long. The priority is a top goal scorer not another slow or small midfield player.

Why the hell didnt we go for Suarez? Affordable, proven goalscorer, great substitute goalie but maybe just a bit to ‘do-able’. And by that I mean Levy would defintely had to have shelled out as opposed to unlikely 35m deals for such players as Rossi.

Reports suggest Redknapp felt he was too light weight. Cant agree, he a tough little b*****r and reminds me of Francis Lee for those who can remember.

With him on board, we could have then looked for a Carroll type forward in the summer, kept Defoe &off-loaded Crouch & Pav.

Boy, this club drives you crazy!

I think arry said he played as a second striker and was too similar to VDV.

Personally I’d choose him over VDV & have VDV in a less forward role. Unfortunately VDV has little pace & would never have manouvered himself into that position Suarez did the otehr night.

And thats the major problem, apart from Defoe, none of the strikers lack pace or aggression.

strange thing is rossi is actually a second striker!? but it wouldnt be harry if it made sense

I’m not to keen on the “hoof it up to the big fellah” approach as I didnt’support Wimbledon in the 80s … oh no, and look where it got them – Milton flaming Keynes, at least St.Ratford is closer.

I think we can all end up reading too much into things at times. 24hr news coverage means that we are bombarded with soundbites and quotes on a minute by minute basis. Now, even the most throwaway comment that got ignored 10 years ago in the ‘once daily’ update gets blown into a media special and Sunday Supplement pull-out.

I doubt that the club were distracted from the transfer window by cooing at Becks and while the seeming lack of focus was a concern to us, we only have unsubstantiated and recycled reports from ITK’s & Spanish club Chairmen seeking re-election to go on. The truth was probably a lot more different and the reality that we need to face is that we’re just not a big name draw yet… Yet.

As for Becks or Neville or any of the old boys? A little experience in the squad, why not. We saw what Davids did for us, Klinsmann did for Sheringham, Gallas is doing for Bassong & Daws and that The Iceman did for the whole squad at the end of last season.

When it reaches ‘squeaky bum time’, someone sitting in the dressing room that has been there & done it and is a calm head among all the twitching nerves can be worth a Suarez on their own.

I prefer to trust in the guys with 40 years in football and wait until they don’t deliver. So far, Harry has delivered, despite what his detractors can hypothesise about what might or might not be if someone else were there.
