Highlights? We Don’t Need No… Oh Hang On, Maybe We Do…

Put your ear to your machine and the sound you hear is me getting back into my box.

The came, they scored, they went home again. I really felt we were going to blow it. You know, a bit windy, a bit nippy. A bit not quite us.

I didn’t see any more than the highlights. I was toying with going, but I wouldn’t want to tar myself with the ‘real fan’ brush and so lose street cred with the bulk of my readers who are either house bound or incarcerated (Hey, easy there – just sharing some of the emails I get ).

So 3 points and my best wishes to ol’ Modders on his tummy tribulations. Here’s the MOTD highlights.

I endured 90 mins on a stream. I have to tell you it was poor – extremely dull.

I’m worried – we’re still chosing the right ball at the wrong time – and vice-versa.

If it wasn’t for Gomes we’d have lost that by some margin last night.

Only saw the highlights but we could easily have lost that by 2 last night. Obviously our injury list is a massive contribution to the fact but I’ve never been one to bemoan a bit of good luck. Man Ure have had large swathes of it all season and if its good enough for them…………

Strangely, I didn’t get the impression we were outplayed. I got the impression (via a good stream), that the ckickin likins boys were on the ropes most of the match…We were well up for it… We had to be.

We made enough mistakes to lose, but we weren’t outplayed. A good team would have ripped us apart down the right side, but a couple saves off the line and 3 good ones from Gomes were enough. Robbo kept them in the game on his end as well.

    To add:

Corluka: Predictably slow, looked fucked after an hour.
BAE: Best game in a few weeks
    Defoe: Missing
Crouch: One good touch after 3 mins, might as well have gone off after that
VDV: No complaints, but don’t like him on the right
Lennon: Running down blind alleys again
Wilson: Utter rubbish. Continues to pass to anyone non-yid.
Jenas: “Industrious” – make of that what you will
    Gallas: Fine
    Bassong: Nearly fine.

A tad harsh here and there. Lennon set up Defoe on a plate and nearly had one himself, Wilson worked hard, Charlie worked harder & had a good game – But the winner is ‘No complaints’ for VDV… Just a little on the downbeat side there possibly!!???? He covered every blade of grass on the pitch (well, where there was grass that is).

Watched the game live on the telly…

Gomes: Some seriously immense saves mixed with the usual flapping at crosses/highballs – 7
    BAE: Solid – 7
Bassong: Shocking, really! Terrible positioning, composure, passing etc etc… – 2(I’m being kind)
Gallas: Superb, largely responsible for the clean sheet… a leader – 8
Charlie: Got skinned a fair bit and was quite exposed by having VDV ahead of him – that said he didn’t give away any penalties and was pretty solid considering the small amount of recent game time – 6
Lennon: Clearly not happy or confident on the left, (does he even have a left foot)but did put in some good runs when things opened up a bit – 6
Jenas: Largely anonymous and highly frustrating – he just can’t pass forward. Bonus marks though for looking busy and appearing involved – 6
Palacios: Just when I thought the old sarge was starting to emmerge… a very poor game, gave away the ball endlessly and just looks totally shot of confidence – 3.34
VDV: Was good(great assist!) and did work hard most of the time, but doesn’t really work on the right of midfield and does frustrate me with not delivering as he could a fair bit of the time. Some poor corners, free kicks etc(I’m being fussy) – 7
Crouch: Good goal and would have had some assists if Defoe could anticipate anything… did get bullied by Samba most of the time though – 6.5
Defoe: Desperately needs a goal… just not at the races – 5
Sandro(sub): I would give him the knod over Palacios. Seems comfortable on the ball and gets around the park – obviously still finding his feet, but I reckon could be a very good player – 6

Overall: A great result all things considered, but a better team would probably have put three or four past us… Speedy recovery to Bale and Modders please!
