Real Madrid In The Champions League Draw

Good Greebling,

As the time of writing we are merely a hop, skip and guaranteed beyond tedious address from UEFA away from knowing who we’ll face in the quarter finals of the competition.

For those just visiting this planet – the names in the hat other than us are, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Shakattack Don’tAsk, and FC Shalke 04.

The ties pulled today will be played on 5/6 and 12/13 April. With the semi-finals taking place on 26/27 April and 3/4 May. The 2010/11 UEFA Champions League Final will be held on Saturday 28 May at Wembley Stadium KO 20.45hrs.

Nobody is making up the numbers here. Jose is looking to achieve something extraordinary and win the competition with three different clubs.  Quite simply, ‘wow’ Don’tAsk are a different side to the one we met in what was the UEFA and what I’ve seen of them would really inspire me if I was a supporter.

Inter came back from behind to beat FC Bayern Munich to get here and that to me is them having already played one quarter final. FC Shalke did the same to Valencia and underlined the fact that they have won all of their home games so far in the tourney.

I don’t fancy Real. I think there are better equipped sides in this to dismantle them and it would also require us to wear that dreadful, jinxed, bad news in blue away kit.

Should we exit mid April, it would be duller than house dust if it were at the hands of a Premiership side.

Bring on Barca. The outcome of that tie would genuinely define our Champions League run and whatever the outcome, we’d be spared a Steward’s enquiry. This is all about scalps and positioning ourselves for the next steps onwards. We’re building here. So let’s be bold and in the solemn words of Alan Latchley, ‘Dare to fail’.

  • AS says:

Mourinho, who had hoped to avoid former clubs Inter Milan and Chelsea, said of the draw: “I’m very happy to play them, not because I think it’s going to be easy – because I don’t think it will be – but because I get to go back to London, to an English stadium and I get to see Harry and I can congratulate him for the great job he’s done.”

The Portuguese, who won six trophies in a three-year spell in charge of Chelsea, added: “I left England in 2007/8 and Spurs were not in the UEFA Cup, they were not even finishing in the first six of the Premier League.

“Martin Jol started the good work and Harry has continued it in amazing ways. I’m so happy for that. He’s a friend, one of the few really good friends I made in England.”
