Exclusive Snap Explaining Why Pav Was Pants

Still on for the treble then.

Good morning born again wireless enthusiasts. I trust you all rounded off your evening’s aural entertainment with a warming cup of Ovaltine and a fistful of mogadons.

In fairness to the radio johnnies they captured the mood perfectly .Their minds wandered towards anything that was more interesting than the game. The fact that the hot water boiler at the Brittania was kaput so no tea (how they yearned for milk and two shugs) and the early departure of gentleman sporting an comb over to rival that of George Roper’s.

So only 1500 odd Tottingham fans saw it. You happy few. A few reports have trickled in and they all match the misery we imagined when listening. The reality that a noble few are determined to gloss over is the fact that playing second string players makes for third rate viewing and in this case …abject failure.

It’s just not the Tottingham way. Just like grinding out 1-0’s aren’t either. I predicted 0-0 and did so with a heavy heart. Bloody Stoke ferchrissakes. But no, I am told it is good for us to give the yoofsters out.

Cod liver oil is good for you too and as it is equally grim on the palate the overwhelming majority folk avoid it like the plague.

I have to ponder where we could end up if we extend the logic on all this. ‘It’s only the Europa, it’s only the Carling, it’s just the FA Cup’… Having an old fashioned football is going out of fashion. Players want £200k a week and then are goaded at gunpoint away from their mansions; away from scantiliy clad hypnotizing hookers writhing on water beds with jelly beans nestled in their belly buttons, past  fleets of exotic cars in order they ‘run about a bit’ …in a TV studio.

Eventually football matches will be decided . Presented by soulless lady-boys like Georgie Thompson and Ben Shepherd eyes glazed will host a game not dissimilar to Top Trumps. Maybe a quick fire question round.

‘Wayne, who was …Sir Matt Busby?!’

*silence the he grins awkwardly some dribble appears at the corner of his mouth* ‘Could do with a fag… errrr was him what did them adverts for the telephone in the 70’s?’

The camera cuts to Alan Hansen, ‘Noo, THAT’S shocking!’ *canned laughter*

Categories will include Boot Sponsor Value, Japanese Incontinence Towel Advert Revenues and Bodily Organ Upgrade Points reflecting that players have so much cash that they now opt to install better organs to enhance their game. You know, like those old computer driving games where you won cash on each race and could then upgrade your wheels or your suspension.

And so the Carling door shuts and what have we learned? Well, all those who are glad we are no longer in the competition have taken another step closer to a Top Trump Footy utopia.

If we had played Mod, Bale and Ade and one of them got injured or we lost against Wigan we would all be moaning about no squad rotation/overrusing and burning out our star players etc etc.

I’m not Arry’s biggest fan but the bloke cant win.

We learned from last season that he had to use the squad better this time around. VDV and Sandro needed game time to get back to fitness and the likes of Bassong to play himself into form. Players like Livermore are never going to develop into first teamers unless we play them.

On paper the starting team only included a couple of players who havent either been first team regulars or seasoned internationals.

The real problem last night for me is the players who many say should be in our first team, but arent taking the opportunity to stake a claim for a place. Pav, Gio and Gomes are the obvious candidates. A combination of mental frailty (perhaps a lack of self confidence) or perhaps pique at being used as second stringers, meant that they performed nowhere near the level of which they are supposedly capable.

Pav (who many on here thought was our best striker last year) has played three times this season and been awful every time.

great post, agree with it all. I literally cant stand all these people who just complain for complainings sake. Its getting so boring. The people who complained pre europa league tie about playing the kids were, im sure, same people saying last season that they would rather us finish 6th and not even be in the thing. People ocmplaining about last night are the same who complain at us not being able to keep clean sheets and our squad rotation policy being poor. Arry cant win…..

Hang on a mo 1500 fans payed good money to see Harry play Longo Carroll Livermore Townsed in midfield while on the bench he had Falque Celabos Bostock and Coulibaly who played in a freindly for Gallas. This worrys me because is he going to drop Kabpoul for a man who could not line up against Stoke. Also are you telling me Bostock is not has good has Luongoor Coulibaly would do worse than Pav. The result hurts a bit the manner in witch poor Luongo had his first run out does the lad should not have jumped past Falque Parret or Bostock or on loan Mason. This has done Ekotto no good because he was given a torrid time by Pennant and will be a worry when we play Stoke having said that Bale will be helping him not Dosantos. We all agree giving kids a game is okay throwing youngsters in who have never even played at white hart lane is another shame on Harry for playing Brentford with Gallas and Bostock Coulibaly

Surely now any defendants of Gomes, GDS and Pav have to be silenced. Granted on their days they are all fantastic, but 2 or 3 ‘days’ a season just aint not right good enough. At least thats 3 games off the calender before the FA cup starts, and to be honest i really couldn’t give a flying fish about the FA or Europa cups. We could get raped by Chelsea and violated by Shamrocks in both cups and i would cheer the team’s name when they walked onto WHL for the following league matches. Let the peasants have their cups and europa’s, I only have eyes for 4th.

    • PLN says:

The only problem is Chris, is that they dont give out silverware for 4th place.

“Let the peasants have their cups”

Who wants to win a competition when coming 4th in one of them gives us more money?

      What is football coming to?

    • Essexian76 says:

So much for the Glory Game then? Spurs have a tradition of cup football, or we did have to be more accurate. So I wonder what attracted you to support Spurs?

      • chris says:

being in a spurs shirt from the age of 3, i was not ”attracted” to spurs, i simply always have been a spurs supporter. and since it’s highly unlikely that spurs would win the FA cup with our trademark injuries as well as the tougher squads of man city and utd, and slightly redundant to get to the final of europa, no doubt having an adverse effect on the league season as it would and leading us to simply repeat the competition next year, it makes sense to prioritise the league position. The developments in the club (stadium, players, facilities) hang on champions league football. Unless we all want to settle for being a 5th-10th team who occasionally get to the CC final?

        • Essexian76 says:

Sorry mate, the games about winning and if it’s a cup..it’s a cup. Look up the past winners of the Carling (Brum, the exception) and those of the FA cup and then tell me about priorities of the ‘bigger sides’. Is Wenger not under pressure for achieving exactly what your proposing? Despite 15 years of CL qualification, they’ve won nothing for 6 perhaps 7 seasons and it’s unacceptable to their fans. I’m not actually too bothered about losing last night, but to state your views in such an aloof and superior manner is disrectful to those who made the trip and the seven or so players who wore the shirt and at least tried!

The best of business done for years – even better than VdV… I was jumping for joy when that deal that signed and sealed. I feared it was going to fall through. I ate the humble pie and thanked him for the memorable moments at Man City and Milan… forever will cherish these memories …. let’s face it he’s NO footballer ….

      • DAVSPURS says:

Kids don’t want to learn a losing mentality and its bad practice Winning any game instills confidants. I said we should have sold Pav and Kept Plan B Crouch and i was right.

        • Essexian76 says:

Well, no you’re not right Dav. Did Crouch play well? despite playing almost the full game he was as good for them as he was for us, which was cack if truth be told. I’d sooner have the 10m in the kitty than Crouch on the field wearing a white shirt anyday. As for Pav, there’s rumour (Ha!), that a 13m offer is on the cards and I wonder if we’ll accept it?

        • D AVSPURS says:

He did score his penalty and playing for us he could have scored the lad was Happy to wait for is chance Pav looks like his wife caught him with a blonde.

        • CptCaveman says:

I cant believe what I am hearing…you were right that we should have kept Crouch?? This is a wind up right?? Apart from the fact that 10mil for a 30 year old is amazing business…Crouch has been and always will be Sh@te…the amount of chances he has missed for us is criminal!! The supply that he has got fron VDV, Luca, Bale etc etc he should be banging in 20+. Honestly…please tell me what you and Harry see in this boy??

        • Highgatespur says:

    • Parklaner says:

Falque Celabos Bostock and Coulibaly are no more experienced than the 4 who ended last night so I can’t see how that would’ve made any difference. You would expect Pav to be champing at the bit to get out there and play, being a 1st teamer, but it seems that the lethargy has sunk in to the bone.
Just because Gallas played a closed doors game there is nothing to say that he will come back in over a fit Kaboul but it’s nice to have that option, Time for him to be moved on.
We’ve got injuries that are hindering us. Lennon Pienaar Huddlestone would’ve all played had they been fit and to come away from Stoke, which is a hard place to play at is no disgrace

      • D AVSPURS says:

How many Goals has Luongo scored and Bostock played for Hull and scored both him and Parret Flaque Celabos have scored for Spurs development squad .

        • Parklaner says:

I’m sure the development squad and Stoke away are different entities entirely. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lads that played had banged a few away in the development squad also, I’ll leave the answer for those who know more about that squad than I.
Bostock has been about for a few years and never hit the heights. I think he was even dropped by Hull. Maybe his attitude is poor, maybe he’s not as good as we all believed, who knows

      • Parklaner says:

“Time for him to be moved on” is about Pav and not Gallas BTW

  • brineyno9 says:

I’ve desperately wanted Pav to be the full ticket but for a man who can trap a ball further than I can kick it he never fails to disappoint.

Maybe it’s a cultural thing that he shows no (or little) emotion and his goals per game ratio may mislead (over a goal every other game)but ‘Arry stopped short of saying that “Sandra could have scored” the chance Pav missed at Stoke.

I think we’ll be lucky to get £3m for him but come January that might look like a good deal. Come in number 9 your time is up!

  • TMWNN says:

Nope; still not convinced. Keep the best players fresh for the league and the FA cup.

Like or it not, the Carling Cup and the Loser League are now Mickey Mouse, and it’s not the fans who are to blame for tuning them into the mere side shows they’ve become.

The sad thing is that the FA cup is going down the same route. Money mad UEFA have ensured that only the CL, and by means of getting in it, the respective leagues are the only things that count.

The FA haven’t helped their cup’s cause by devaluing the final experience by holding the semis at Wembley either.

It was fantastic to beat both scums in 2008. Beating those two made the cup worthwhile. It would be great to do it again, but if we’re really serious about making Spurs a club where the best players want to play, and to fill a 56,000 stadium every game, we must not spread our resources too thinly. When we eventually find ourselves in the position to compete season after season (i.e. when we have a new stadium), we’ll have the resources to compete and win on all fonts.

    • TMWNN says:

In fewer words: CL first, the rest will follow.

      • DAVSPURS says:

We all agree TMWNN.Champions league is the aim but you are not telling me Falque on loan from Juventus is not better than Luongo or Carrol at this stage or Bostock. The Problem Harry wanted to get Gallas fit and used other players in that game. Gallas should have bean in our team at Stoke if he got injured it would prove he is not ready does this mean Kaboul who has bean very good along King is getting benched for a man who played against Brentford ?

    • Essexian76 says:

The league cup (in any incarnation) and Europa (UEFA CUP)League have always been second rate comps, just look at the crowds and team selections from any history book to prove that. But the attitude of Pav and GDS really are a disgrace to the shirt and our management team. They’ll moan and groan about game time and a lack of opportunity, but on what I’ve seen so far, I would’nt play either of them in a Hackney Marshes third team. I blame the managment for two reasons-1-for intially selecting them..and or For not getting the best out of their ability. If he’d played Kane and another couple, would it have made a halfpennies difference? but at least the travelling support would have players out there breaking sweat and at least trying to impress.

      • TMWNN says:

Of course the FA Cup and the European Cup have always been more prestigious; no-one is refuting the fact, but there is hardly any prestige in the Carling and Loser Cup at all now.

Completely agree about the Russian and the Mexican. Both a waste of space.

  • eastanglianspur says:

The bottom line with Pav is that Trout Chops has done to him what the Spaniard did to PSB.

Old Redders couldn’t manage a scout troop. :-(
