THFC Getting Into Bed With AEG : Will Levy Be Tucking Them In?

Good morning.

Four hundred and fifty million quid is the figure being bandied about. Philip Anschutz of AEG it is suggested is prepared to buy the controlling stake in Spurs. From The Express.

Nigh on twice the figure of the Liverpool sale. But aside from being at least twice the club, Tottenham come to market in rather good fiscal shape and not on their bindipping knees.

Why would this happen? Well we can only guess really. ENIC are perhaps reaching a crossroads whereby their investment is coming to the end of one chapter and about to commence upon another. They are after all an investment company and if they don’t trade now,  attempting to do so later one might argue would at best cause confusion. At worst look like they were bailing, no matter what the books said.

Anschutz’s form in the field is nothing shy of excellent of course. Not just a leading light but a driving force behind the MLS this is a guy who appears to have combined business acumen with a legitimate passion for the game. AEG owns LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo. The potential synergies between AEG and THFC are pretty breathtaking. AEG’s wiki page.

What mustn’t be negotiable in any of this is the retention of Levy & Co. If AEG wanted to buy in talent and experience for the road ahead it’s inconceivable to suggest a better candidate.

Football clubs are generally run by a selection of idiots that nearly defy description. Bent second hand car salesmen, white slave traders, costamongers, devil worshipers and money launderers.

If this is true it comes just in time to hang on to our best players while waiting for the new stadium to be up and running.

The Goon’s demise appears to have coincided with the departure of David Dein. Let’s learn through history instead of repeating it, by keeping Levy at the helm at all costs.

Levy must stay no matter what! We cannot become one of the clubs that gets taken over then becomes a mockery like Liverpool etc. The plans for the stadium must stay on track and we must keep our momentum on our upward curve going.

It would be interesting to see if we had the choice, who would pick Arry above Daniel Levy….
It’s a no brainer for me….Dan is da man! ;-)

The reality is whether or not ENIC, AEG ,or whoever own the club; mismanagement and poor leadership meant we had 20 years of mediocrity. Over that period we were reduced to being perceived as being a small club (Tiny Tott’s), many unable to differentiate between us and West Ham. One single person and a chain of events caused this back in 1990-1 by over-stretching our resources and trying to be inventive in a time when common-sense would’ve been better served. We needed an Alan Sugar to bail us out and he steadied the ship, before allowing ENIC to take the helm. Sugar did the right thing for the right reasons and I’ve no doubts that ENIC are doing likewise, that’s their job after all. Harry’s a manager nothing more, nothing less- where we need to learn from Arsenal is to never combine the two

I think the lesson has been learned by the chairman in regards to the managers position at Spurs from Arry’s previous positions at Pompey, West Ham etc etc…otherwise we would now be a team FULL of journeymen and football whores…

We both know it Harts, and fortunately Harry’s bad to piss poor buy’s have served the club well, which has allowed Levy to do what he does best and Harry to do likewise, and keep out of any transfer deals. It’s a winning combination and one that cannot be replicated with England. I’m more concerned with the club and what’s been built and that continuity is vital to our success. Does Bond, Jordan and all the backroom staff go if Harry goes? Doe’s a new bloke think ‘Well this is Harry’s team, I’ll create my own’, like Venables did when Pleaty left-leaving us with a very poor team for 3 seasons? Do Bale and Modric follow Harry out of the door, after all Levy only assured us he wouldn’t be flogged last season?, after all a hundred million is a hundred million?

….Dan is indeed the man, but wasn’t it the unpopular Mr Sugar who first put in the wage caps and other financial controls that saved Spurs from bankruptcy at the time??? I personally don’t really like Sugar (as if he cares), but can’t deny his contribution to our current healthy balance sheet
