But today’s award for the tale that smells worse than an abandoned pet shop in high summer also goes to the old Current Bun and their, ‘City’s Sights On Modric’ article.Where Roberto Mancini is quoted as saying,

But it is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.”
I’m struggling to see where any sights were being set there. Sounds more like he was asked about the player and gave a reasonable answer that’s been rather desperately twisted.
And so to the the link with Swansea supremo, Brendan Rodgers. I get that Arry is itching to quit and I get that Rodgers has done a cracking job at Swansea, but quiet how The Sun have ignored bookmaker prices and placed the 5th ranking man first is anyone’s guess.
Rodgers has had a terrific run with the Swans, but is he so short sighted as to bin all that and take a punt with a group of new players and moreover put his career beneath a constant microscope? I’ve only seen him a handful of times on telly, Goals on Sunday and such but he doesn’t come across as insane.
If you want a real tip, I say George Galloway has come from out of nowhere to being a plausible front runner to succeed Citizen Redschnapps. While it will be a tough act to replace Arry, Gorgeous George would certainly tick the voracious appetite for media relations box …and given the botch job he made of Bethnal Green he won’t be in office for long …but could he match the unsparing altruism of our Arry?
That George Galloway is a great shout loved his “cat” impression on BB he may get the best out of Gomes. I like Rodgers but I like the special one better 1st?
Think the “special 1” would only be with us until united job comes uo so i personally would prefer rodgers.

The papers are desperately attempting to annoy us but as you suggested, it looks like Mancini merely answered the question he was provided. Thus, I’m annoyed at the papers, not Mancini.
Here is the full interview which clearly shows that Mankini was simply answering the question asked; Modric is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Premier League – linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea last summer, much to Harry Redknapp’s annoyance.
And the 26 year-old has once again shone this season as Spurs push for the coveted fourth Champions League spot.
Mancini, with practically unlimited funds at his disposal, will look to strengthen his side when the next transfer window opens, and the Italian has revealed that Modric is top of his wish list.

….Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed his admiration for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.
Mancini was speaking during a pilgrimage to South Eastern Europe, where he went to Medjugorje in Bosnia.
The Etihad Stadium boss was asked by the local media about Spurs star Modric and he admitted the Croatia international was a ‘great player’.
“Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player,” said Mancini.

Mancini’s trip was very much part of his own personal beliefs and he insisted he did not want football to overtake that fact.
“I feel this is a very special place, for many years I have wanted to come to Medjugorje since a priest in Genoa told me about it 25 years ago,” he explained.
“My faith has helped me and my life, but it does not apply to football or my career – the Lord has more important work than that of football.”
