€75,000 a week is the salary being touted by Dutch journalist Jan van Eyck . Personal terms are not the issue. But the stumbling block appears to be the fee. The gap between the alleged asking price and the alleged offer seems big, if not insurmountable.
Ajax are said to want €16.3M for Jan Vertonghen and Spurs are supposedly offering €10.1M.
For the Eredivisie player of the 2011/12 season it seems to be small change and we need to get this done before the whole thing goes sour and we’re left clutching straws.
Vertonghen’s stock is well valued or so it seems …with Bruins Slot (a scout at Ajax, ex-assistant at Barcelona, “Vertonghen is a left-footed Koeman. Don’t understand why Barça don’t push for him.”
If anyone thinks this is going to be done before the winner of the Champions League is announced I think they are being incredibly optimistic. This guy is the real deal and will not come cheap.
Think Levy might be waiting for the exchange rate to drop..
The reason why Levy won’t pay the asking price is the same as why other clubs won’t get near it. Surely the fact that he goes for free at the end of the season and can negotiate as a free agent in January has a huge bearing on what Ajax will get Yes. Let’s pay what they ask, over the top, and use up money that can be used to top up bids for players who don’t have expiring contracts. Great business..
How much do you think we should pay for a quality centre back ?
I maybe wrong but I tend to think that Levy’s lack of spending is related to needing to funding the new traing centre and stadium. I think that money has come from the last 2 years transfers and champions league. I think the only way we would generate transfer cash is on the back of the cheatski getting beat on Saturday. COYS.
Stop facking about Danny and get it done
I understand that Levy has to balance the books but I will be gutted if this goes tits up and he goes to one of our rivals.
