From Inside The Lane

Good afternoon.

I’ve just had a very interesting chat with a charming woman who appears very much in the loop in relation to our current situation.

First up Arry’s alleged post tin tack comments about an element of the club’s board being an ‘orrible lot appear to be well founded. If of course your definition of ‘orrible is that some simply did not care for every waking thought of the team’s manager to become a soundbite on talkSPORT.

If your definition of ‘orrible was feeling shortchanged that a man paid unrelentingly vast amounts of cold hard cash was so seemingly unfocused on the most basic elements of his job description (Hello set pieces, we mean you!).

Then came the (almost) incomprehensible insensitivity of Arry’s timing. Running to the press making a case for his continued employment in a company whilst the chairman of that company was coping with a death in the family… well… Classy.

The killer bow however was, I am told the involvement of Arry’s ‘representatives’ in the meeting. Basically, he spived himself out the building. What a shocker.

Who’s the new manager? I don’t know, but I’d hold back on the whole, ‘let’s lump on Moyes’ option at this stage.

To much focus on Moyes. This ‘Safe pair of hands’ is a crock of shit. Croatia played well against Italy, hope Levy noticed. Would solve a certain want away midfielder problem also, kind of kill 2 birds with one stone.

Id take AVB over Martinez. I worry Moyes and Martinez won’t attract top players, or help us keep the ones we have. He gets the nod from Jose, full of nothing but praise for the guy, I’ll take that over a few blogger opinions that he’s useless!!

Strange day, very grateful for the last few seasons under Harry, just a shame he’s been such a chump with his loyalty/comments & tactics last few months, got what he deserves this season, no doubt.

Harry for the chavs, AVB for us!

    • LLL says:

AVB – he is a proven flop in the PL. That’s a bullet Chelsea took for us, why would we need to risk yet more humiliation by thinking we are bulletproof?

Everything he achieved with Porto is more or less par for the course for that club in that league. Whereas he came to the PL and managed to finish 6th with the 1st/2nd most expensive squad in the league. Well, he may have done, he was sacked before he finished obviously.

Those saying it’s all Terry’s fault, I don’t buy that at all. Terry is a monumental cnut, but the manager is the manager, even he knows that. And if he let Terry start running the club behind his back, it doesn’t say much for his management skills.

I don’t really care about attracting supposed big names. It’s face value crap, and we need a more considered, long term appointment now. The players won’t leave because Redknapp has gone, they will leave if Levy wants them to. New players will come if they like the set up and the money being offered and the direction the club is going. Getting in a fancy Dan manager in the hope they attract Fancy Dan players is all well and good but isn’t that what we tried with Ramos? That was a mistake. Redknapp wasn’t a mistake at the time, it was a logical step. The next appointment should also be a logical, progressive step, not repeating same mistakes as in the past.

The one who took over from AVB was also a proven flop in the PL. He have done ok. Different clubs, different situations. The only ego AVB would have to deal with is VdV and Adebayor if he comes back, something I doubt.

        • LLL says:

And his record in the league was pretty bad too. His run in the CL was probably the most lucky I’ve ever seen any team in my life. I think it’s great they have given him the job next year as I think they stand a better chance of floundering in the league again.

I believe that the one thing we ought to steer well clear of is any idea that we will steam up the league quite as well as we did this season. With a new manager comes new ideas, methods and tactics. Some players will love and some will loath the new way so consequently there will be some players that won’t fit the mold.

One things for sure waiting for the new appointment will be like xmas at 10 years old again, will it be the BMX I want or a second hand raleigh Grifter, Come on Santa, sort me out!

        • Johnny says:

So true. Agree, even a good manager could need a honey moon from the fans and the press to get to know his players and let them get to know him. But hey, that´s football.

Think a lot of the players are on their way out who ever comes in. Bassong, Corluka, Jenas etc. But even do the transfer fees received will be lower then what we paid for them it will still free up cash to bring in other players.

Think about it. What is it a coach really want to bring in him self, in key positions he want people he trust? Goalie, cb, striker. And that is just the positions we need to buy new players for. A golden opportunity for who ever comes in. Wings and midfield is already as good as sorted. The spine how ever is a bit old or lacking.

      • McG says:

Sorry, but a few months managing the most egotistical bunch of cuntz in the PL, with Roman poking his nose in at the same time doesn’t make him a premier league flop imo. If he gets Jose’s backing thats good enough for me. We do need to be able to attract top players cos theres a good chance we’ll lose two (possibly three) top players this summer. There’s a big difference between “fancy Dans” and quality, we will need to attract quality.
I recon you fancy Dan as it goes ;-)

        • McG says:

I should point out that he’s not my first choice for manager, but as stated, I’d take him over Martinez/Moyes. The guy strives for our brand of football, the nucleus is there, maybe not such a bad fit.

          • Frontwheel 2 says:

Yes,I think he got shafted over Chelsea,he was bought in to get out the old guard but got no backing from the owner, maybe tried to do things too quickly but that might have been his brief.Like johnny said above,we ain’t got as many egos at the lane and who knows he could be the special one yidstylie

          • Johnny says:

Probably the way it went down. Roman have very little patience with his managers. Problem is, so have Levy to. :)

But I do think AVB would get an easier time at Spurs but it would be vital how he get along with the rest of the staff who I reckon liked Harry a great deal. Sure, some might be moved along with Harry but have AVB managed to build his own crew yet? The people at Porto I reckon would like to stay at Porto. As LLL said above, they have a good system over there in place.

  • Torquay Spur says:

We must go all out for Mr Guardiola however mad this sounds

    • elfranklins says:

We can’t entertain his likes i’m afraid, not just yet any how. I see this club building for a good couple of years yet before we have the kind of capital we would need for a Pep/Jose-esq manager, but in saying that who knows, Jose likes a challenge and we certainly have a quality squad.

    • A Brainy Sturgeon says:

      .
Mad? Try embarrassing. Wouldn’t it be nice though. :sideways:

  • A Brainy Sturgeon says:

    .
AVB? Oh great, first they embarrass us in the semi then they simultaneously win the CL and dump us out of the same competition for next year resulting in us losing our most successful league manager for decades, and now to cap it off we might end up with their version of ramos.

Whatever happens, please god surprise me.
