From what I can make out, AVB is happy to work with either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3… I think you may see us starting in a 4-3-3 but moving to a 4-2-3-1 to see out the last half hour of a game, if we’re winning…
The 2 in a 4-2-3-1 doesn’t have to be 2 defensive MFs, however, judging by his previous squads – I could quite easily imagine a 2 comprising any of Parker, Sandro, Modric/Moutinho, Hudd, Livermore…
A 4-3-3 might be a better fit for us, though:
The central 3 generally comprise a defensive MF, a passing MF and a mobile, attacking MF – so:
Parker/Sandro/Livers
plus
Modric/Moutinho/Hudd
plus
Sigurdsson/VDV(mobile?!) or even Bale…
These 3 central players have to be good enough footballers to be able to “rotate” positions through games…
Finally, the front 3 could easily comprise 2 strikers and a winger (eg the Sturridge role at Chelsea could be played by Defoe), or a central striker and 2 wingers, if Bale and Lennon are pushed up…
The odd one out in both systems (for me, anyway) is VDV… but, I’m sure he’ll be jemmied into what ever system we use for 60 minutes, in any case…
