Good morning.

Reports emerging from the City of London right now that Andres Villas Boas is indeed the manager/coach/most recent ginger person to have been employed at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

He’s in for an interesting time. Arry’s mates in the press will be campaigning in earnest. Brace yourselves for leaked exclusives that Andre’s favourite sandwich is Newborn Baby, Lettuce and Tomato; that the genetic experiment in The Boys From Brazil was in fact real and that Andre was the sole survivor. Stuff like that.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Good luck to him, he’s gonna need it.

  • Brentwoodspur says:

‘Harry’s mates in the press’ will be justified in criticising AVB if we end up lower in the PL next season. It’s a huge gamble. The baby eating analogy is a bit rich coming from someone who has been vociferous and over the top in his criticism of Harry.

    • Harry Hotspur says:

Difficult decisions are the burden of rank. I decided I wanted Arry out and I’ve decided I want AVB in.

      That’s show business.

    • mattspurs says:

I want Spurs to win the league – but I know it’s going to take time.
Finishing in the top 8 with a young team this season and progressing each season is good enough for me. I’m looking at the league title in 2015.
In all honesty what’s the difference between 10th and 5th – a Europa league spot?

      I’m very excited

      • Devonshirespur says:

AVB is coming in to build on the quality we have. Not to dismantle it and start again from 8th.

There is no way on Gods Earth that we should be dropping below 5th. Chelsea will rise again, and the usual suspects above us will be in the mix.

NUFC will need to improve and LFc will need to improve massively to better us.

If AVB cannot lead this group + whatever new signings come in to 5th or better then he’s a shit manager!

        • Astromesmo says:

We’re back to HR and his amazing contradictory-quotathon…

          When self at the helm
“4th was a massive overachievement for this club”

When AVB mooted for the helm
“With this squad he should be pushing for the title”

I guess it’s always depending on what direction you’re looking at the pint glass from.

        • Devonshirespur says:

Well according to the anti-HR mob, we should be achieving 3rd or better with “the best squad we’ve had since Sir Bill”

Now all of a sudden a drop down the table is almost expected and excusable.

Sure the new man needs to change things around, plan long term, different systems, different styles, develop youth etc but it’s not like he’s going to have to rebuild from the bottom up.

      • Rebrov says:

The Harry haters pick and choose quotes. He also said when he was at the helm “I want to win a championship with this squad, it’s not impossible”

With AVB the only championship we will be winning is THE championship (The old first division, previously known as the second division)

      • Chirpy says:

“Finishing in the top 8 with a young team this season… is good enough for me”

WTFF! I think the excitement must have scrambled your brain!

  • shevyiddo says:

Funny how it ent official on the official site yet!

  • jim says:

he’ll need more than luck once the fans turn on him, which they will of course.
By then the sound of the rest of the league and media laughing at us might have died down …… but then again, maybe not.

    • Astromesmo says:

what is he doesn’t Jim, will you climb in off the window ledge and raise a little smile?

    • Devonshirespur says:

One of our problems is that the Media will be waiting to shoot AVB down. He was not popular amongst them, he was targeted.

The problem with fans, which has been evident through this Redknapp saga, is that they will cherry pick media BS and use it to formulate their opinion.

Harry wanted to sell Bale. Harry refused 4 yr contract extension, Harry wanted to sign Rio & Cole, Harry’s training = “run around a bit” These and many other unqualified gems were used by many as facts to “demonstrate” Harry’s failings.

If AVB does not get the media on side, they will write what they want about him, true or not, and the fans will pick and chose what they want to formulate their opinion that AVB is useless/should be sacked etc.

Put simply, if things do not start brilliantly, the likelihood of the fans turning will be increased by the fact that they will believe any negative crap written by the media, which is likely to be a lot.

      • Astromesmo says:

And you’ll be waiting… To do everything you’ve had a go at the supposed ‘Harry-Haters’ for doing. If we don’t thrash the oppo in our first three games you’ll probably be first to start complaining. But that’s the way it goes.

I’m happy for you to do that as you’re a Spurs fan and you care. I couldn’t give a tinkers what the press think though. They blindly ignore the fact that Harry was off anyway if he’d had his own way – He’d admitted as much himself. That’s why I don’t understand the blind loyalty. It has nothing to do with all the saggy chops blah blah and I hated all that.

Bottom line, given the opportunity he was off. That’s not a foundation to build on surely?

        • hk_yod says:

i’m with Devonshire on this one. the complaints people had about harry were minor at most and there is some quite misplaced optimism for the signing of AVB. i hope he does the job and think he could do the job but there’s very little chance we’ll be top four this season. 1 step back for 2 steps forward? maybe. will levy give him the time he needs for this so-called revolution? maybe.

just because we don’t believe in the decision it doesn’t mean we’ll complain. we’ll support spurs no matter what but simply look back on what was a massive gamble, one that wasn’t necessary to take – similar to how we did when jol was sacked. having a valid opinion is very different to being fickle.

        • hk_yod says:

and lets come back to earth for just one second. what english manager wouldn’t take the england job?

      • TMWNN says:

It’s impossible not to ‘cherry pick’ when you find yourself in the world’s biggest cherry orchard, Devonshire.

If people can’t get behind a bloke who hasn’t even been in charge for one game, that’s not really much point in them bothering at all.

      • 39 39 39 says:

Andre just remember to brush up on your Kipling “if you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs” You’ll be THE MAN my son!

  • richspurs says:

prophetically speaking: winning everything in sight. apopcalyptically catostrophic num num birdie.
    good luck coys.
