André Villas-Boas spoke briefly with a reporter from AS.com as the lads were waiting to depart from Thiefrow Airport.

When it was suggested that he would know Jose Mourinho’s ambitions in relation to Modric as well as perhaps anyone, Villas-Boas referring Real Madrid’s existing midfielders said “There are eight, right?” as he then physically counted out the players names on his fingers.

Here Villas-Boas is implying that perhaps Real Madrid may not quite see Modric to be the invaluable missing piece of Jose’s puzzle he might view himself to be.

On Modric not travelling Villas Boas was to the point.

“I think Modric is wrong. This will go against you. Has worsened the situation with what you are doing and now the president is very angry.

Also has not caught in good time to Daniel Levy. is happening these days in the U.S. because his wife is ill. ”

When asked, “Are you interested in Cazorla?” André Villas-Boas replied,  “Our team is constantly looking for players. But I do not talk about it.”

What a refreshing change to have coherant manager who is ‘on message’ with the both the club and it’s supporters.

Adebayor? Well has has been widely reported, he’s in the States, but the other side of the country. That said, he’s closer to the Spurs first team than he is the Manchester City’s which is in Austria.

As previously on here, Ade has signed off everything with Tottenham but the delay is at the City end, this corroborated by Jasper and Marcspurs on Spurs Odious as well as JJetset formerly of Spurs Community.

Quite why people expected this to be a deal wrapped up in the time it takes to make a Pot Noodle whilst beyond me, it doesn’t surprise me.

    The wonders of Skype hey?

The only thing that freaks me out a bit is that if Modric goes will we have enough time to land a replacement? The league is really competitive and three bad games at the beginning of the season will hurt all season.

Just want rid of the odious little git, I met him at harrods by chance a couple of months back shook his hand and asked him to stay, now however I want him out, the money must be right, Madrid are but an ugly outfit in my opinion that have unsettled him like Chelsea did, he will probably spend half his time on the bench like Berbatov at Man U.
AVB showing class over this unlike Redschnapps did (yes am agreeing with you Harry).

If we did well Modric, is the higher priority now a direct replacement or a top class striker?

Arguably, VdV or Sig could play the Modric role, but what have we got up front?

    • MarseilleYid says:

      *sell*

    • Dont think VDV or Sig could play the Modric role. They are very different.
But he cant play their roles either. They are more potent around goal etc.
He keeps the team moving pushing and receiving in space etc.
We are still short of a creative inside player though.

Agreed Ronnie, but the need for a goalscorer could be seen as greater. Ade ain’t going to play 70 games as we win the Europa League :-)

      • I dont disagree that why I mentioned in the prev blog the need to know the situation. If we have 60 mil tospend then ok fine we can buy who we want but if not…
We all mostly know we need two more players if Modric goes and we keep Defoe.
        A replacement and a striker.
If we do not want to spend more than the Modric transfer amount and we get say 32 million. If we buy a top ranked striker we would blow all or most on that striker.
We could have Ade,Defoe and lets say Berbatov (ok I accept everyone cringeing) but that would cost 5 mil or so and then throw in Harry Kane or another youngster.
We then can spend 20-25 mil on a creative player.
Otherwise buy Llorente put Hudd or Sandro in that role and use all the other supply players, wingers backs etc.

Tricky, isn’t it? Just seems to me that the teams that finished above us last season all had a clinical finisher. Even without Modric, we have plenty of creativity.

        • I think a closer everyone needs.Nice to play pretty football but there has to be an end product.
That mostly comes from a striker which was one of our least effective positions last year.
Problem is they cost a lot.
So everything hinges on what we want to spend (as usual even though the ante is up this season and the reports of that figure range bigger than I have ever seen it) But if we go on recent history we have to sell to buy (if its a different owner its to sell to Dubai)
we will have at least the Modric money at least.
So we have to be smart.
Most Tottenham fans wouldnt have Berba back. But it might be a small risk with a big return. The downside is looking stupid. For me pay 5 mil for him and give him a mega bonus for scoring and a moderate wage and see what happens.
Either that or buy the best on the market for a striker. But to spend 20 mil on average I would rather take a chance with Berbatov.

‘We have plenty of creativity, like who?’
we’ve got plenty of mid fielders, but who of them are creative? Modric’s ability to be creative at pace and keep the ball moving is going to be a huge miss for us.
If the question is if Huddlestone’s forte is pinging a 40-60 yarder for the forwards to chase, then the answer i-s What bloody forwards! Livermore isn’t creative, more a stopper. Gylfi, I’m open minded about, only watching him twice-other than those, who else is there?

        • Mr Pamplemouse says:

Harry Kane is shite and isnt an option

        • Essex,I really meant supply players or I was thinking more of supply players.
          I think with the following:
          Bale
          Lennon
          Walker
          BAE
          Sandro
          Hudd
          is a lot of supply

What we need MORE is a striker

My point is that we can spend the Modric money on another Modric but we still have a problem.

I hope I cleared that up.Ive said it quite a few times
