Good afternoon.

The headline isn’t sarcastic. I expect a number of you expected to see a tale recounting one of the first team MMS’ing a snapshot of his nether regions to an Only Way Is Essex star (Ooops sorry Jake, me and my big mouth).Dempsey, Adebayor, Dembélé and Vertonghen. All clever cookies.

Now these quotes from Ben Pearce talking to Hugo Lloris in the Hornsey Journal

I know I banged on about the Daily Mail but they made stuff up and I’ll be damned if I’ll put up with it. No, Hugo strikes me a fantastic addition. Bright, talented and undoubtedly a fantastic heir to Brad’s well kept throne.

“I think Tottenham has a great project for the future and I think I will have my place, but now it’s a period of adaptation I have the time to adapt with my new team and I think everybody in Tottenham thinks the same thing.

“Will I play on Sunday [against QPR]? I don’t know, the coach will take his decision. I think we work very well with the other goalkeepers. For me it’s a new thing, I am discovering a lot of things like with the new stadium. I’m here, I give all my best, I want to work and I want to play but now the coach will take his decision about me. I will just work and we will see.”

“It’s good but I would prefer to win with my team so I think in the next game we will want to win and to continue this competition with a good thing, I didn’t have to take any balls, but we had to concentrate and we did that so we have a clean sheet and that’s important for the confidence – but we haven’t won. We are happy but we want to win the next game.

“I think it was a good game, but we were not lucky. We had maybe we had one or two opportunities to win and the referee has taken another decision, so we respect this. But I think Lazio is a good team, they came to defend and they defended very well so we want to take three points in the next game.”

He seems Captain material the way he talks but I dunno Harry. There is something kooky about him. I can’t put my finger on it exactly right now. Maybe he isn’t a joyful cheery dressing room presence and that’s all there is to it.

    I’m keeping him under observation.

The real Spurs story of the week is Baldini.

Lloris strikes me as a very focused professional. And a bit dark. I can imagine him pulling the fur out of tiny rabbits with tweezers whilst listening to Jacques Brel.

I also think hes pretty fucking cool

nearly missed that one habib, what is a general manager anyway?
the structure of the club is up to levy. the manager he appointed has success with this structure – not sure what it would really mean though.

      • Habib says:

That’s the Director of Football position. What Comolli had when he was with us. I approve of it simply because it’s too much work doing both and AVB needs to focus on the first team. All of Europe works this way including Mourinho.

  • Petr says:

3 players are needed in the January transfer window that fit the AVB profile. I think Moutinho, leandro diamo and Willian would be fantastic additions, Isco would be useful but I think we need a proven goal scorer?! All these players have youth on their side and are quick with excellent first touches, hopefully we can get them all as they would give Spurs the extra quality and dimension that they lacked for a part of the end of last season! AVB will do s great job if Levy and the board deliver what HE asks for instead of trying to pick players for him!!! COYS

      no, you are wrong.
We need stability and time for the side to gel.
The only place we are lacking is at right back and right wing and both of these roles will change under avb over the next few months with options in the squad for both.

      look at the back five
      GK – Lloris and Brad
LB – Benny, Naughton, Vert (not inc Bale)
      CB – Caulker, Gallas,Vert,Kaboul Dawson
      RB – Walker, Kaboul, Naughton

The options are now here to play any system we need.

When everyone fit would love to see kaboul at right back again with walker dropped.

If we are going back to dreaming about a 50million striker who can play on his own, hold up play, involve everyone around him and score 25 goals a season then we are pissing in the wind.

we have the players to succeed, we are stronger now than last season. We also have the manager to do it for the first time in years.

Personally I think AVB’s giving everyone a go and seeing what materialises within his idea of play.
Looking at the players-they seem to be getting to grips with it and with him-it was never going to be an overnight success, and given our budget limitations and the type of player we can purchase, then I’m pleasantly please so far-as I said before-for now it’s performance, commitment and shape that are important right now-even more so than the result.

      • Petr says:

Why would you Want Walker dropped??? He is one of the most promising young defenders in the league and the potential to be world class! We may be stronger than last season but they still need a creative midfielder that can get up and down the pitch! A striker is a must to compete for a top 4 position!

        • calebray says:

he is a defender that cant defend that well, runs into the same spaces as lennon, forcing him inside where we are already congested, gets caught out of position, gets turned too easily and has lapses in concentration that get recovered with a good turn of pace. but he is very promising and will only get better.

The criticisms were only made to highlight how strong we really are. kaboul is a better defender.

we had three players on the pitch over 90 mins against lazio who are all capable of playing the box to box role.
