A Little Light Whoring

Good morning.

Shakattack Don’task play Chelsea tomorrow night and another Spurs summer target that didn’t happen Willian has said:

‘Tottenham is a big club and it has a good person in charge. Andre Villas-Boas wanted to bring me to Chelsea and also tried at Tottenham. He always sends me messages. We are always in touch, and he has become a friend, for sure.’

Which sounds quite positive until you read on…

Choosing between the two clubs would be difficult. I don’t know. Chelsea is Chelsea. They are a great team, with amazing players and are the champions of Europe.

‘I would love to play for either of those clubs. But my mind remains at Shakhtar, and I’ll do my best to get the win against Chelsea. Everybody knows what my goal is. I’ve clearly stated that I would like to play in a bigger stage, whether it be England, Spain or Italy. I want to come back to the national team, and being in a bigger spotlight would help me get noticed.’

Nothing to get upset about, rather an honest reflection of the man simply wanting to advance in life.

Elsewhere some stroke surviving Intern at ESPN has decided to play fast and loose with a Hugo Lloris interview with Stade 2

“It’s not my motivation to be on the bench, I do not worry but I feel powerless, I want to play and I think I was brought to Tottenham for this purpose. I’m ambitious and I want to be on the pitch. I have respect for all the people in the club, but things are clear, I’m not here to live this situation any longer. I think selection for France and Tottenham are two singularly different things,” he said. “I did not need this match against Spain for my status as No. 1.”

I don’t speak French which is almost academic as the video isn’t working. But this is translation by a media outlet looking for a story.

Hugo isn’t going to say, ‘Oh je t’aime being on the bench c”est triffique.’ is he? So he when he says he didn’t expect to be rotated it  is quite a normal response. To say that he doesn’t pick the team is also quite a normal response. I wish I had more cheer to bring you.

Tomorrow I’ve an ‘interesting’ Maribor special and a cracking shiny new HHH is in production.

Why are people giving it in the neck to Friedel who did nothing wrong despite conceding four goals. Maybe Lloris would have been quicker off his line for Mata’s second goal but Walker and Gallas were to blame for bad marking and slowness. I think Lloris will gradually become first choice and I expect him to play against Southampton if he plays well at Maribor.

I think Lloris would have got Cahill’s first.

Sharper reflexes. Brad looked to be trying to get out of the way.

I don’t think he has been doing too much wrong, but sometimes it is also about what he hasn’t been doing. He has started to become ever more static in goal. In any case we signed a 10m goal keeping captain of his country. He is the future and should also be the present now. Their roles need to be switched. Put Brad in the ropa dope, Carling cup and the odd easy PL fixture etc to give him a nice retirement send-off.

Put another way, Brad has conceded 12 goals in 7 games. Of course, they were’t all his fault – perhaps none of them were in terms of making goofs etc, but averaging nearly 2 goals against per game says there are a few areas for improvement in the back line.

For starters attempting to save the second would have helped. A lot of keeping is about reading and anticipation, and Friedal lacks that at times. It means he does not look bad often. I reckon Lloris might even have anticipated and come out for the 3rd goal. Just look at how we kept against Villa. Against villa a couple of chances would have been clear cut as Fridel likes to stay on the line, but Lloris coming out meant it was not

He’s getting it in the neck because he conceded four goals.

avb has a fine balancing act now with several players. Ade vs Defoe, Gallas, Walker, and obviously the Lloris and Fridel issue. Not to mention the form of Dempsey and Sigg is not great too. It is going to be interesting to see how he handles this. I think Lloris should start, and ade needs to play too. I still think he is better. Otherwise play 4-4-2 and Ade plays instead of Dempsey. Ekotto when fit should come in and Vert should play in central defense instead of Gallas. and Walker – who knows what do with him!!

I think LLL makes fair points. I would also gradually make Lloris first choice and use Brad for the three cup competitions. We also need Ekotto back and Vertonghen at centre back again. Love to sign Willian and/or Moutinho, then we’d be cooking.

The problem is that Levy hasnt spent any money for about two years now, he just recoups money from selling our better players and uses it on buying cheaper ones.

  • JJ says:

I’d happily put Naughton back in at LB to get Vert back at CB. I’d like us to start with Vert and Caulker at CB next game with Lloris in goal.

If we can’t play Bale or Lennon I’d rather we stuck Townsend out there then Sig or Deuce. He’s young and hungry for football and can play as a winger so we won’t be unbalanced as we were against Chelsea.
