Hello.

This might be something. It might be nothing. You have to have a heightened sense of suspicion during International break, however this comes from the Fatherland and not Fleet Street.

Michel Bastos is the name in the frame and the German edition of 4-4-2.com is suggesting that a bid of €10m could be on the cards come January.

Again another biwingal winger – although he does favour the left. He’s 29 and has been at Lyon since 2009. I did a small amount of Googling and I’m not sure about the money side of this. It was reported only last year through a few English newspapers and the figure being touted then was of €22m.

Add to this, the knicker twisting of the Lyon chairman over the Hugo Lloris deal and we really could be in for some protracted fun and games.

Will this happen? In a word, dunno. What I do know is that this type of player would be a brilliant addition to shore up Bale having moved into a more central role.

Reading the news today I see that Skumski are going to snatch Benny in January and Adebayor is off to the ANC having scored the goal that qualified Togo. Anyone heard any good news?

For 10 million pounds, you get a proven attacking full-back that can play on both flanks as a winger or full back, he’ll provide competition for BAE and Walker, cover for Bale and Lennon, and most importantly be an example for the likes of BAE, Walker and Naughton to learn from. I don’t actually think he’ll be brought in to feature much as a winger, but rather has a full-back on either flanks. AVB likes his full backs to make runs forward, provide crosses, make overlapping runs with the winger, or cut in and shoot. While I do rate BAE, I think Walker and BAE are both not up to AVB’s standard of attacking flair. The certainly have the qualities needed to play such a role, but it hasn’t happened yet. So to break the barrier, they need a real-life breathing example right under the players’ nose as a standard bearer from here on out and for future full-backs for Spurs to sort of giving them the target to aim for, and the belief to go for it (well you could argue that Jan has already done that, but he ain’t going to play as left back long), and that to me is the real value of Michel Bastos despite his age.
