Bad News For AVB Haters

Good morning.

This from a proven decent source and bound to irritate the hell out of the naysayers, bedwetters and other lingering Arryites. It’s my understanding that Andre Villas-Boas’ position at the club is very much secure. For how long? Well not just this season but the next one too.

This considerable support is conditional of course. If the boss were to be linked with a vacancy elsewhere and suddenly went missing, spent his day whoring himself to the press, neglecting his THFC duties or otherwise managed to drive us into the relegation zone then you can guarantee he’d be toast.

But the plan as I understand it is to factor in Boas’ resources, review what support the Club can offer and to forge a path that will offer longevity.

Will this initiative designed to offer stability please those that claim to wish Spurs well but not the manager? Who cares. At this rate QPR will be back in the Championship next season and there are bound to be openings for supporters who want to sit in cosy, old fashioned stadium telling each other how staunch they are.

The worst thing that happened in recent times to this club was Arry screwing us over so blatantly after giving us a taste of Champions League football. Suddenly too many clowns believe it’s a god given right and have been acting like outraged consumers ever since. Spoiled children each and every one. Empty seats at Europa games and only boos to break the frosty silence during league games.

The very idea that you can separate your support for the Club and the manager is beyond parody. Oh, of course unless you’re following the Blackburn Rovers model.

I wonder how long it will be before people start demanding we replace AVB with RDM! losing van der vaart (who is in my top 5 spurs players ever) and luka modric has cost us, Ledley too, it is simple, you need to spend 70m quid to replace that lot, anyone deny that? the best thing for the club is to construct a model of longevity as harry suggests, whether or not AVB is the man or not is an open question but the club is behind him it seems, there are some wonderful prospects in our youth ranks. Jesus, Pep Guardiola, the man credited with a significant role in La Masia had loads of time to mold those players who went on to become one of football’s greatest team, we do not have the setups in the UK that allow this though the new youth league formats will over time change this. This contant demand for instant brilliance, it is demented, if hear any booing in the next couple of matches, it will cause me pain in my soul!

All of this is true, AVB has his own methods as did Arry but constant micro-anaylasis of a managers’ every move is missing the point. We have to stick with AVB and let him do things his way.

As i have said before i liked Harry and thought he should have hung about another few seasons and AVB has grown on me a lot too, i have seen enough so far to suggest that he could be a good choice long term. If AVB really wants to win over a section of the support, stop playing frightened rigid football at home and go for it a bit more and that will keep the doubters quieter for a start. He must show he understands our traditions in the way we play, maybe the penny’s dropping now. Get some more quality in Jan and next summer and lets see how he does.

However, some people seem to think any criticism of AVB is automatically ‘pro-Arry’, why? On what basis? Makes no sense, i think both of them have different methods but are both good managers. Can people please stop playing AVB off Harry and vice versa, like the press seem to do? It’s short sighted and pathetic.

Avb will be up the road by christmas. him and his back room staff are clueless. We need to get a proper manager in like david moyes invest in a couple of class players and get moving in the right direction again.

I hate to disappoint you but i think the plan is longer term than that. AVB is also prepared to work with a DOF who i’m sure will be put in place before long. The whole structure of the coaching and development of players, signing players is being overhauled. They won’t bring in someone like Moyes as he is more like Harry, a man manager for the present. Levy wants a ‘first team coach’ who will stick in line and not question board financial policy and work with a DOF.

It’s what he tried to do with Ramos but sold Berbatov and Keane and replaced them with Pav and Bent and it all went boobs up from there. Harry was brought in to save a sinking ship but ended up doing far better than Levy probably ever thought.

The board wants that system in place as it it’s an economic strategy and allows for forward planning, how can you plan spending when a manager suddenly demands that you sign a 20m player on 100k a week or he’s off? Not saying HR would have done that but even with smaller deals, the board want full control over all of it.

AVB will only go if we are hopelessly bottom half, otherwise he’ll stay, top 4 or not. The club will defend keeping him by saying there is a long term project and that AVB is key to that to justify not sacking him. They might be right long term but only time will tell, it might all get us nowhere long term but at least we’ll have a new stadium… Which is essential, like it or not and oring as it may sound.
