Good morning.

Apologies for resuming normal service. Maribor eh? Word has it a football match broke out. One foul-up, 3 goals and a Street Fighter 2 Turbo move from the Ginger Ninja himself that was worth the price of admission alone. The fat may well have been well and truly chewed out by now, so I would simply add the following:

Hugo was spritely, Walker was unconvincing despite the low scale oppo, Awesome Dawson was moderately awesome, Verhonkytongts was quality, Naughton looked every inch a bloke being played out of position, Azza was his default setting of ‘a bit underwhelming’, Carroll was a shining star, Dances With Cake was sluggish, Bale was frequently causing a disturbance in the force, Ade was doing decent impressions of a good footballer and the Midget Gem was a non stop goal machine.

Hurrah.

Luis Martins said something to Andre Villas-Boas that later that evening he immediately regretted.

Amazed by all this perkiness. Three brilliant goals – Yes, performance? crap. This was, at best, 3rd division opposition. You’ve said yourself that the IQ has dropped and, boy, has it. Wonder touch by Hud for the pass to Bale and some great long passes – but winning balls?? No leadership, flair or clue – we’re back to Gerry Francis days in the twinkling of a close season. All the garbage on TV about 4-4-2 and whether it suited us sir – bullshit, it’s turn and shoot Defoe on his own, Ade looking lost and mostly switched off, Bale looking embarrassingly more talented than the rest (and wondering where Mod and VDV have gone). No one to win a ball, no-one to lead – and Citeh to come. It’s not down to AVB – though he doesn’t seem like any great shakes to me – it’s down to having a handful of class players who began to play after Ramos went and have now departed or are injured. Lennon still doesn’t know when to release the ball or when to shoot. and, without Modric and Parker there is no one to help the rest re-group and start going forward again. Walker is playing as if he’s made it, as if he’s a quality veteran. Dawson seems like a guy from an old sit-com in a new sit-com that isn’t funny anymore.

      Now I am depressed.
Not exactly a “half glass full “person are you?

Let’s all commit mass sepukko and worry about the next life’s version of WHL.

Why can’t you just pretend everything’s rosy like the rest if us

We do have talented players. They just havent found their places.
I really hated Harry Redknapps Laise a’ffair attitude to tactics but the players often played with good instincts (and sometimes not) but now they are thinking too much instead of acting and reacting. It takes time to internalize ideas.Sometimes never and instincts are not all their is by far but if the chamistry is right it can click right away.
This is the big problem with AVB. We havent seen too much.
Lennon,Bale,Defoe,Ade,Vert,Sandro,Dembele,Dempsey,Sigg are ll capable of making this work but are their insticts being allowed a voice or is AVB micro managing too much???????????

Adebayor was outstanding on Thursday, excellent that Defoe scored three but as said, against poor opposition. Adebayor must start tomorrow, against Kompany 5,5″ Defoe won’t get a sniff, at least our big Togo man can hold onto the ball for more than 2 seconds. Lloris needs to start as well, he is so fantastically quick off his line, the moment an opposition player gets his foot into the box the ball is in Hugos arms. COYS.

A win is a win is a win. But I found myself feeling frustrated for much of the game because it was nearly oh so good but lacked a bit of cohesion.
We mustn’t get carried away since the opposition was, largely, postal workers, waiters or cabbies.
But I try to take something from each game, good or bad and I found:
    1) The uncertain goalie situation needs to be resolved and AVB should take the bold step of making Loris number one where I think he’ll prove to be a world class keeper.
    2) As much as we like him and would dearly love him to become Bechenbauer, Hudd is unlikely to make it.
    3) Tom Carroll may.
    4) As much as we like him and would dearly love him to become Ledley King II, Daws is unlikely to make it.
    5) Vertonghen already has.
    6) Walker? He’ll come through but may be suffering from premature adulation.
    7) Bale is capable of destroying a defence on his own. He is our cruise missile.
    8) Azza isn’t but could be.
    9) JD will score goals any time any place, just needs the service.
    10) Ade deceptively agile, he provides so much we must accommodate him.
    11) Naughton? Not sure.
    12) Dempsey ditto.
We oh so miss Sandro and Dembele not forgetting Kaboul and Parker. Sunday may be a couple of weeks too soon but it’s the start of a hectic few weeks which we need to come through unscathed and with a daffy of points.

For the first time ever I was up in hospitality at Spurs last night.

Had the pleasure of meeting John Pratt who came up to our table – now there’s a bloke who dosent mince his words! He had some views on the team, players and AVB. Surprisingly so did the otherwise uncontroversal Pat Jennings. I wont divulge what they said other than some on here will wince and some will smile ;-) Always interesting to get the often brutally honest views of pro sportsmen, the ones who have been there and done it.

Watching a Spurs match now will never be the same again so if you ever get the chance of hospitality, grab it !

As I popped to the loo Fabrice Muamba was walking from the tv studio so I said ‘hello’ and gave him the thumbs up. He replied with “Hi, thank you” in such a quiet, polite way. I dont know if his halftime interview on the pitch was broadcast but if it was I’m sure you’ll agree what lovely, lovely guy He is. You wouldn’t guess He was a footballer and once was on the Gunners’ books :-)

Wonder if Spurs and Bolton will have a testimonial for him?
