I Told You So!

Good evening.

Given the mood in the Spurs camp getting coherent information is a blessing. So a sincere thank you to ‘Mr S’ who kindly shared the news yesterday with us that the boss is going to get some proper support from Levy & Co. This manager isn’t going to be binned on a whim. He was selected for a host of reasons and it is ambitious to suggest that much aside from the poor bar steward’s resources have changed.

Daniel Levy remains behind the Portuguese boss and is ready to give him significant funds to spend in the transfer window.Villas-Boas wants a new left-back, central midfielder and a striker. – Daily Star

Tottenham’s chosen agents have already begun work on trying to lure the club’s top targets to London.

– Daily Mail

CSKA’s Russian Euro 2012 star Alan Dzagoev, 22 – a summer Spurs target – remains on Villas-Boas’ shortlist and Roma’s Bosnian Miralem Pjanic, 22, is a name being considered. Daily Star

Andre Villas-Boas will be handed £20million to revive Tottenham’s faltering Champions League ambitions.

– Daily Mail

Nothing leaks unless sanctioned is what we need to understand in relation today’s spoon fed newspapers who are running with Andre Villas-Boas getting not only time but cold hard cash in January.

If I hear booing, it will cause me pain in my soul… I do not think these pessimistic wastrels understand the club as some others do, forgive me for thinking we are a special club but that is what I feel. We might not have won dozens of titles but we have an essence few clubs can rival, I see us as a class removed from the likes of Chelsea fans and West Ham’s vile rabbles, we are slipping down the road, we risk becoming the latest example of the lowest common football supporting denominator!! I expect the boys to rally in the next week. – ‘Mr S’

    OMG!!

Most of you would have sacked both Ferguson and Bill Nicholson(rememeber 18th spot? Just two above relegation?

This is LONGTERM and we may even lose bale because of it but look at what is oozing up from below ready to burst like an eruption(volcanic not pustular) into the first eleven. It would seem that Barca and RM have noticed more then you lot. Being YOUNG they have adapted to the AVB playing system(3-1-3-3 or 4-2-3-1) almost within three months and the results are showing it.
The hardcore veterans are necessary to “plug the current leaks”(Thud,Dawson,Gallas,) in our good ship Tottenham. BUT once we have the holes plugged with the RIGHT players things will change for the better.
Right now we do NOT have a full ELEVEN FIT AVB players but we will have a full 16 such by 2012-2013. But then none of you have the oatience that comes with watching the team well before even Bill Nick came as manager.

  • East Stand says:

I believe this all to be true, AVB fits board policy someone like Moyes etc wouldn’t. Someone like that may only be brought in if we are hopelessly out of the top 6-7 in my opinion. It’s all about planning spending and the NDP which is a huge investment for the club. It’s as much about setting economic policy and planning spending and AVB fits in and will work with a DOF once one is put in place.

My only concern is the source, The Mail and The Star? Hmmm… Be in The Metro tonight too!!

You make excellent points. I think United were on the verge of sacking Fergie and in the Fifties apart from 50-51 season we were real yoyos ranging from runners up and third to 18th. Under Bill we didn’t have a really poor season till 69-70 season, where Greavsie couldn’t buy a goal for weeks on end. The memories are getting a bit hazy now, it was a long time ago and in the Fifties and early Sixties there always seemed to be a permanent crisis with The Soviet Union, along with the threat of nuclear war and real austerity to worry about, rather than football.

    • Boy Charioteer says:

      Sorry, @ Michelle.

      • Michelle says:

        NPs : )

I haven’t(and wont ..too lazy) checked the books but I am SURE that we cam 18th just before the 59-60 ie 58-59..Funny thing was that we wre not bad but typical Tottenham: set piece concessions, not holdind a lead and Harmer useless in the mud. IIRC the transfer of Mackay changed this for 59-60.
However never trust an oldie’s memory : )

    • philmccrackin says:

Sadly we seem to have picked up the Permanent Crisis since :hae:

  • Peter Ogden says:

Just seen the news about the attack on our lads by a gang of 30 to 100 armed thugs.Worried about the safety of our fans tonight especially if we win,and we should given that Klose is not even in the squad. But should the match go ahead. The sterile EUFA authorities should act now and deduct points from Lazio therby makking the game unecessary, and they should make Lazio refund the travel costs,of all our fans and pay the medical costs of all our injured fans. What do you think.

    • Boy Charioteer says:

Yes, it’s just been on The Wright Stuff. Apparently they were masked and stormed into a bar with iron bars. The match should not go ahead. Spurs should get a bye. Clearly they have treated with contempt, the accusation of monkey chants which these fascists perpetrated at White Hart Lane. They should instantly have a 5 year ban on any football in Europe and immediately relegated to the lowest league in Italian football. Too, the Italian Ambassador should be summoned to the foreign office for a full briefing on the consequences of not taking any action. Our fans must be compensated fully with any medical costs, travel costs, ticket costs and any long term psychological damage resulting from the attack, bore in full by the club who clearly take a cavalier attitude in regard to the murderous intent of their fans.

      • Essexian76 says:

It’s happened countless times in Italy- Man Utd, Boro and so on, but nothings ever really been done, nor will be apart from a meaningless euro fine-but apart from the illegal betting, stabbings, corruption, racism and so on, Italian football appears to exempt from any proper punishment, unlike us eh?

    • Ronnie Wolman says:

There has always been an element of thug behavior in football.Tribalism is at its root and should be.It takes it out of the streets and puts it on the field with marshalls looking after (not always) the proceedings.
But at times the street has poured into the stadiums. Its usually marginal. But at times it isnt.
I would think that travelling to the south (I dont mean Brighton-on-Sea)to watch a game will become worse with slowing economies and more unemployment and the using of tribalism by the extremes.
Democracy is imperfect but worth fighting for.

      • Michelle says:

Can you blame the morons? To go to games they have to be employed and the Italian Social security system is collapsing under illegals (just like all other EU states) and this upsets those who pay their taxes.
No excuse for violence though but Lazio IIRC was Mussolini’s team and hard core fascism runs deep there and hence their tribalism is tainted and more violent.

        All IMHO

  • Habib says:

You build a legacy and to do that you have to mix prudence that supports your long term vision with some bold moves that get you above rivals.

Under Levy we have gone up an average of ten positions in the table with a foundation we will belong here. He’s created an extra 100M+ pounds of assets that are invested in the first team with sheer hard consistent application of a financial philosophy. So if Modric leaves we get Dembele and another player in Jan and we will survive. If Bale goes we will use the cash to compensate. That extra squad investment means we will be here competing for top 4 for foreseeable position.

But that financial strategy can take us no more. The clubs we now rival like Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal etc have the marketing clout, fan base and revenues to match us even after making mistakes (Like Liverpool’s 100M spent on crap players over last 18 months). Now we need to mix that prudence with bold moves. And getting a manager who can optimize our league standing with tactics and use our squad to fight on multiple fronts is the next step. So we have AVB.

I can see the plan. And I feel blessed I have a Chairman who I may occasionally detest short term but can only admire long term. We can argue if the bet on AVB has paid off. But you cant argue we dont have a plan and a damn good one.

There is no substitute for Faith for a Spurs Supporter. Let’s give this a few seasons.
