Wotcha.

Interesting piece of loose gossip from (overseas reader) Mrs Eileen Dover who I understand is the revered author of  ‘Clifftop Tragedy’ to name all of her published titles…

The name in the frame is that of  attacking midfielder, Achille Emana. This guy has been in a bit of a, ‘no mans land’ for some time on the old transfer front.

But we have been scouting according to Eileen and at a glance this looks like – a quality Levy & Co buy – ala Zokora were we could snap him up for what, €6M? – Passing on…

Right, off to find out something about the guy other than his name.

    • MysteriousStranger says:

His nickname is “The Painter”. I’m optimistic.

        You are not wrong.

I just saw he’s 28 though. Typical signing from Mr. Redknapp. I’m not optimistic we’ll recoup our fee once Harry’s done one.

it wouldnt be that much though MS. He cant be worth more than 8m?

Even DL would sanction that shirley?

        • MysteriousStranger says:

Whilst Keane, Defoe, Crouch (players with similar age profiles) are proving hard to rid when surplus to requirement? This is the problem. Spending £8 million to recouping potentially next to nothing (a nominal couple of mill) is well worth thinking long and hard about.

IMO it seems less likely that Levy is going to be able to/be prepared to spend a fortune – at least not until Harry or Modric is gone. So, unless we sell Modders between now and this time next summer, or Harry’s given the Spanish archer… Then some funds will be re-invested on something with a level of quality and longevity in mind.

I cant respond directly to your answer (stupid blog settings) but I see your point….kind of anyways

I dont buy into DL not paying out whilst Arry is in charge; whats the business principle/sense in that?

However the Modric situation has now become an absolute farce and whilst Bonds quote has been taken out of context he still should have a stock answer and not one that fuels the fire.

I guess in DL we trust :wassat:

I actually do like the look of this guy. And truly I would think our price range for purchases is somewhat limited given our current Manager being quite likely to not be our Manager in a year, and, that nobody is getting sold to fund transfers. Except to date, for O’Hara, who I’d have kept in the squad anyday of the week ahead of *****. Plus there’s the “sustainability” issue, wages.

The future incoming manager will want to shape his own team, too. I’d imagine If we keep Modders, Harry spends not a massive amount this window. If we sell Modders, Harry spends what we make back from sales, tops – and I suspect he won’t get to splash out too much – he’ll fill Modders’ place with a midfielder for around a third of Modders’ sale price. The rest will go on the positions we needed to address striker and defender – if we can attract them/sell the deadwood.

There are players like Granero, Ilicic we should be courting IMO. But all seems pretty quiet. Mirko Vucinic didn’t fancy us over Juve, I doubt we’ll see Mata, the only positive so far is Pastore going to PSG, leaving the neccessity for Chelsea to open up their wallet a bit more for Modric/get into a bidding war with Man Utd maybe.

Even if we got £35 million for Modders, we won’t pay £30 million for his “replacement”, that you can count on. And too right as well. I don’t want the club sold down the river with Redknapp spending that kind of fortune on someone to break our wage structure on, who turns out to be fairly average (and lurking like a bad smell) like most of his prior signings.

I could see the merits of signing Emana, simply based on the Youtube clips which make him seem very intelligent and aware of what’s going on around him. Experienced also. But you know I like intelligence and awareness (the very qualities Defoe seemingly lacks as a footballer), if any of that rubbed off on the youngsters then the fee (recouping) issue might be immaterial in this particular case? Though once(at least thrice now surely?) bitten etc.

yep, cant argue with any of that

          makes a nice change ;-)

Why do we need another Enema when we have Jenas already?
