€75,000 a week is the salary being touted by Dutch journalist Jan van Eyck . Personal terms are not the issue. But the stumbling block appears to be the fee. The gap between the alleged asking price and the alleged offer seems big, if not insurmountable.
Ajax are said to want €16.3M for Jan Vertonghen and Spurs are supposedly offering €10.1M.
For the Eredivisie player of the 2011/12 season it seems to be small change and we need to get this done before the whole thing goes sour and we’re left clutching straws.
Vertonghen’s stock is well valued or so it seems …with Bruins Slot (a scout at Ajax, ex-assistant at Barcelona, “Vertonghen is a left-footed Koeman. Don’t understand why Barça don’t push for him.”
If anyone thinks this is going to be done before the winner of the Champions League is announced I think they are being incredibly optimistic. This guy is the real deal and will not come cheap.

Make it happen Levy. Need him regardless of what happens on Sat!
This is what the big clubs have to pay for quality. He is well worth the big fee, Man u and arsenal interest remains, and he will be a star in the prem. Levy will shell out surely.
All the more reason to get it done
£13m for a player with ONE-YEAR left on his contract? Are Ajax crazy?
If Ajax demanded £9-10m I would see this as feasible.
And £60k per week! G’wan son!
what’s wrong with Mr Levy,he dilly dallied on the cahill deal and lost out,i can see exactly the same happening with Vertonghen, the guy is quality, just pay the extra few mill and recoup it back on jenas of bentley ffs,GET HIM IN NOW!!!!!!
Same thing happened with Arshavin… Can see the same end result
