Tottenham’s Ryan Mason made headlines following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, accusing his squad of being “naive” at times this season.

Spurs came out hot, but The Blues eventually put Tottenham away with a nasty counterattack that was put away by Sergio Aguero following a poor Spurs corner-kick.

The fact that Tottenham did have early opportunities and failed to capatilise left Mason perplexed. He said following the game:

“City knew how to shut out the game and this is something we have to learn quickly for next season because we have got a young team and we need to learn how to play bad and win games. First and foremost we want to win games, play attractive football and score goals. But there are times when maybe we’ve been a bit naive at times.”

Mason himself has enjoyed a breakout season for Tottenham, even earning a nod to play for Roy Hodgson and the England international team against Italy back in March.

He and his Spurs teammates will look to create and capatilise on more opportunities heading into next year’s fixtures.
