Aston Villa have entered into talks with Flamengo over a potential deal to sign Brazilian defender Emerson Royal this summer transfer window.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, contact has already been made with the Brazilian club as Villa explore the possibility of signing the right-back.

ESPN Brasil report that Emery’s side have already submitted an £8 million offer for the defender, with discussions described as ongoing between the two clubs.

Emerson Royal is seen as a player who could provide competition and cover for current first-choice right-back Matty Cash at Villa Park.

The Brazilian is no stranger to European football, having previously represented Barcelona, where he made three appearances before earning a move to English football.

Emerson spent several seasons at Tottenham Hotspur, making over 100 appearances in all competitions and becoming a regular squad member under multiple managers during his time in north London.

Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou praised the defender as a “super” player, highlighting his attitude and work rate in training during his time at the club.

After leaving Tottenham, Emerson moved to AC Milan for a spell in Serie A before eventually returning to Brazil, where Flamengo signed him.

The potential arrival of Emerson is just one part of Villa’s busy summer, with the club also linked with West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen as a possible attacking reinforcement.

Croatia international Martin Baturina remains a midfield target for Villa, having enhanced his reputation at the World Cup after scoring against England.

Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro has also been mentioned as a potential replacement should Emiliano Martinez leave the club this summer.

Defender Lloyd Kelly has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Villa mentioned alongside Newcastle United as interested parties in the former Bournemouth man.

Much of Villa’s summer planning could hinge on the future of Morgan Rogers, who has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

Reese Morgan is a junior reporter at The Hotspur Way, covering a wide range of topics from sports news to local London developments and entertainment.
