Chelsea are accelerating their efforts to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer, with the French international reportedly open to a fresh challenge.
The Blues have been left unimpressed by their current goalkeeping options, with both Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez failing to convince at Stamford Bridge.
According to Milan News 24, Chelsea have emerged as a serious potential destination for Maignan as they seek a high-quality option between the posts.
Maignan was previously linked with a move to Chelsea in 2025, meaning the club’s interest in the goalkeeper is not entirely new this time around.
The 30-year-old is valued at just £15 million on Transfermarkt, making him a relatively affordable option for a club of Chelsea’s financial standing.
New head coach Xabi Alonso is expected to have significant input into recruitment this summer as Chelsea plan a wide-ranging squad overhaul ahead of next season.
Alonso is said to be keen on bringing in experienced players to complement the young talent already present within the Chelsea squad.
Maignan fits that profile well, widely regarded as an excellent goalkeeper with impressive reflexes, strong game-reading ability, and composure when coming off his line.
The France international is also noted for his leadership qualities, his ability to organise a defensive unit, and his accuracy when playing out from the back.
Given that Chelsea came close to securing Maignan’s signature in 2025, personal terms are unlikely to represent a significant obstacle in any potential deal this summer.
AC Milan’s asking price has not yet been determined, but Chelsea’s budget is expected to be more than sufficient to meet any reasonable valuation placed on the goalkeeper.
If the move is completed, it would represent a significant statement of intent from Alonso as he looks to build a title-challenging side at Stamford Bridge.
