Chelsea are pushing hard to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, with the club already in active discussions with the Spanish giants over a deal.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Blues have identified the 26-year-old France international as their primary transfer target ahead of the new season.
New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has personally approved the move, having previously worked with Tchouameni during his own time at Real Madrid.
Fichajes reports that Alonso admires the 26-year-old and envisages him as a midfield partner to Moisés Caicedo, building a more physical and technical midfield capable of challenging for titles.
Real Madrid have placed a £69m valuation on the 6ft 2in defensive midfielder, and Chelsea are moving quickly to try to get the deal over the line.
Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2022 and has since made 195 appearances for the club, winning multiple domestic, European and intercontinental honours during his four years in the Spanish capital.
He has also been a fixture for the French national team, lifting the UEFA Nations League and earning a place in Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Domestically, his consistency at club level has been remarkable, missing only five of Real Madrid’s 38 La Liga matches during the recently completed season.
His game has evolved considerably since arriving in Spain, with a 91.5% pass completion rate and 25 chances created last season demonstrating the creative dimension he has added to an already impressive defensive profile.
Tchouameni’s strengths extend well beyond ball-winning, as he also possesses a thunderous long-range shot and a commanding aerial presence that makes him a consistent set-piece threat going forward.
With over 300 top-flight appearances and major silverware already secured at just 26 years of age, the Frenchman would bring significant experience and stability to Chelsea’s midfield.
Chelsea’s willingness to move quickly and engage in talks so early in the window signals just how seriously Alonso and the club’s hierarchy are taking this particular pursuit.
