Chelsea are plotting a move to sign Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus this summer, with official contact expected in the coming days, according to journalist Mirko Di Natale.

The 26-year-old versatile fullback has emerged as a top transfer target for Blues manager Xabi Alonso, who is keen to reshape his squad ahead of next season.

Alonso has shortlisted Cambiaso as a possible replacement for Marc Cucurella, who completed a permanent transfer to Real Madrid following his vocal criticism of the club’s direction.

Cucurella had been particularly outspoken in the second half of last season, expressing frustration over the departure of former manager Enzo Maresca from Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard described Maresca as “the most important” of the six managers he played under at Chelsea, making his feelings on the situation abundantly clear.

He added, “The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us. These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision.”

Cucurella continued, “To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season. You would give everyone, the players and the new manager, time to get ready and have a full pre-season.”

With the Spaniard now gone, Chelsea have moved quickly to identify his successor, and Cambiaso has reportedly risen to the top of their shortlist under Alonso’s guidance.

Di Natale reports that Juventus are demanding a £34m fee to part with the fullback, despite the Italian international still having a contract at the club running until 2029.

The 36-time Italian champions appear open to his departure this summer, giving Chelsea an opportunity to push ahead with what could be a significant piece of business.

Cambiaso brings considerable tactical flexibility, with 79 of his Juventus appearances coming on the left flank, though he is equally comfortable operating on the right side.

His two-footed ability makes him a particularly attractive option for Alonso, who favours a 3-4-3 system that requires reliable wing-backs capable of contributing in both defence and attack.

Chelsea are now looking to accelerate the deal, with the club set to make official contact in the coming days to begin discussions over a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

At £34m, Cambiaso would represent strong value for a player of his technical quality, positional versatility, and proven experience at the highest level of Italian football.
