Liverpool’s summer transfer activity is gathering serious momentum following the confirmed signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna on a long-term deal.
The Reds hijacked Newcastle United’s move for the Spanish winger, who completed his medical at Spain’s World Cup base in Tennessee while on international duty.
Liverpool confirmed the deal in an official statement, saying: “Liverpool FC have agreed a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna, subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance.”
The club’s statement added: “The forward, who is currently on World Cup duty with Spain, completed a medical at the country’s base in Tennessee in the USA and has put pen to paper on a long-term contract.”
Liverpool also confirmed that Munoz “is the first new addition since the arrival of head coach Andoni Iraola and will link up with his new teammates later this summer after his participation in the tournament with his national team has concluded.”
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are also targeting another winger and midfielder beyond the Munoz deal, signalling further busy weeks ahead at Anfield.
The most prominent name in those plans has been RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, a player attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and valued at over £100m this summer.
Liverpool’s opening bid of around £87m was rejected by Leipzig, who are holding firm and demanding closer to £104m for the highly sought-after midfielder.
Should the Diomande pursuit stall, Liverpool are ready to explore alternatives, with pace identified as the key criterion for any incoming attacking reinforcement.
According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are now eyeing a move for LOSC Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, a player that Manchester United have also been actively working to secure in recent weeks.
The 21-year-old would instantly become the fastest player in Premier League history, having recorded a top speed of 38.5 km/h, surpassing Micky van de Ven’s recorded 37.38 km/h.
Fernandez-Pardo’s 38.5 km/h would also have made him the quickest player in the Champions League last season, ahead of Manchester City’s Abdukodir Khusanov.
His appeal goes well beyond raw pace, with the versatile forward having scored eight goals and contributed seven assists across all competitions last season.
Manchester United have been working on a deal for the Lille star, setting up what could become a high-profile transfer battle between English football’s two most historic rivals.
With Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes ready to back Andoni Iraola in the market, Liverpool appear determined to outmanoeuvre their competition and land another elite attacking option this summer.
