Liverpool are reportedly readying a major proposal to sign Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao this summer transfer window.

The Reds appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager and have already brought in Victor Muñoz from Osasuna to strengthen their attacking options.

Despite that addition, Liverpool appear determined to add further reinforcements out wide before the new season gets underway.

The club’s need for wide players became more pressing following Mohamed Salah’s departure, leaving the squad with limited reliable options in those positions.

Currently, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Rio Ngumoha, and Muñoz are the available wide options, though each carries their own question marks heading into the campaign.

Ngumoha is still developing, Chiesa struggled for consistent game time under former manager Arne Slot, and Gakpo delivered mixed performances throughout last season.

Liverpool’s primary target to fill the Salah void is RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, though an opening proposal worth £87m was rejected by the German club.

Leipzig are believed to want around £104m for the Ivory Coast international, whose contract runs until 2030, and Paris Saint-Germain are also competing for his signature.

With a move for Diomande far from straightforward, Liverpool have identified Trincao as a serious alternative should that deal fail to materialise.

According to a Portuguese report via TEAMtalk, super agent Jorge Mendes has assured both the player and Sporting CP that Liverpool will launch a formal proposal worth close to Trincao’s £51m release clause.

The 26-year-old predominantly operates as a left-footed right-winger but can also function effectively in a creative midfield role.

Trincao has been in impressive form at Jose Alvalade Stadium, scoring 11 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

His strong club performances earned him a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad, underlining the level he has reached at this stage of his career.

At 26, Trincao is operating at the peak of his powers and could represent a shrewd piece of business for Liverpool if a deal is concluded.

Whether Iraola’s side follow through with a concrete approach to bring him to Merseyside remains to be seen as the summer window progresses.
