Liverpool are wasting no time in the transfer market this summer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the club will return with a new offer for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
The Reds only recently completed the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz, who has agreed a six-year contract after completing a medical at Spain’s World Cup base in Tennessee.
Munoz, aged 22, attracted significant interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United before Liverpool secured his signature ahead of the competition.
He becomes the first arrival under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot earlier this summer at Anfield.
Munoz joins central defender Jeremy Jacquet, signed from Rennes earlier in the year, as Liverpool’s second summer addition to the squad.
However, sporting director Michael Edwards and technical director Richard Hughes are not stopping there, with Romano confirming Diomande is a top priority for the club.
Liverpool had a €100m bid, equivalent to around £87m, rejected immediately by RB Leipzig last week, according to Romano.
Despite that setback, Romano says Liverpool “are expected to return to the table and try to find a solution with Leipzig,” with the player himself described as “really tempted by the opportunity to leave now after the World Cup.”
Scouts within the Red Bull organisation have reportedly described the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international as the “most gifted player since (Erling) Haaland,” underlining just how highly regarded Diomande is.
The teenager registered 12 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season, cementing his reputation as one of European football’s most exciting young talents.
Romano outlined the situation clearly, stating: “It’s a 50-50 situation, Liverpool had a bid rejected but are expected to return, Liverpool really want Diomande, Liverpool consider Diomande a top target, so they are expected to return to the table and try to find a solution with Leipzig.”
Diomande is viewed as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who departed Anfield and left a considerable void in Liverpool’s attack.
Diomande is currently representing Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, with his nation set to face Germany in the group stage on Saturday evening.
Liverpool’s transfer business extends beyond attack, with the club also eyeing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven to shore up their backline.
However, Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly keen to retain Van de Ven as a central figure in his new project in North London, making any deal complicated.
