Man United have entered talks to sign Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, with manager Michael Carrick pushing to strengthen his midfield options this summer.
The news comes after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that United have already sealed a deal to sign Ederson, who is set to become Carrick’s first permanent signing as manager.
Romano made clear that United’s midfield business is far from finished, stating: “Manchester United signed the first midfielder, and they will have more, at least one more.”
He added: “So stay tuned, because in the next days I will tell you more on Man United and midfielders, but they are already working on it behind the scenes.”
Romano also confirmed: “After Ederson, Michael Carrick will get at least one more,” signalling that further additions to the engine room are firmly on the agenda.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, United have now held talks over a deal for Casado, who has attracted widespread Premier League interest heading into this transfer window.
Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, Everton, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace have all been in negotiations to sign the Spanish midfielder, with Barcelona now prepared to sanction a summer departure.
AS Monaco are also competing for Casado’s signature and are described as “increasingly confident” they can complete a deal, meaning INEOS may need to act quickly to secure him.
The 22-year-old has earned strong praise from his Barcelona teammates, with Lamine Yamal saying during the 2024-25 season: “We hope that he recovers soon. We love him very much. He was having an incredible season.”
Yamal continued: “Because it was his first season in the elite he was at a great level of play, assists and I’m happy that he did well,” highlighting just how highly regarded Casado is at the Catalan club.
Casado has made 75 appearances for Barcelona in total, registering one goal and seven assists, while posting a 91 percent pass-completion rate across his La Liga outings.
His La Liga statistics from last season show 24 matches, 10 starts, 981 minutes played, zero goals, one assist, and 36 defensive contributions across the campaign.
However, Casado managed just 10 starts in La Liga last season under Hansi Flick, raising questions about whether he would immediately command a starting role at Old Trafford.
United’s primary midfield target remains Aurelien Tchouameni, with INEOS viewing the Frenchman as the ideal fit for Carrick’s system, while Casado represents an alternative option from Barcelona.
A move away from Barcelona this summer could prove beneficial for Casado’s development, particularly given his limited playing time in his debut top-flight season.
