Manchester United have made contact with Borussia Dortmund over a potential summer transfer for German international centre-back Waldemar Anton, according to BILD as relayed by Sport Witness.

Anton has firmly established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most reliable centre-backs across the past five years of his career.

The 27-year-old began his professional journey at Hannover, progressing through the U17, U19 and reserve ranks before making 137 senior appearances for the club.

He joined Stuttgart in the summer of 2020 and played a pivotal role in their historic second-place Bundesliga finish during the 2023-24 season.

His consistent performances for Sebastian Hoeneß’s side attracted attention from several top European clubs before he agreed to join Borussia Dortmund in July 2024.

Since arriving in Dortmund, Anton has earned 12 caps for Germany and secured a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His defensive statistics are equally impressive, recording an 89.9% pass success rate and averaging 5.75 duels won per game from 184 total last season.

United are looking to accelerate their pursuit of the 6ft 2in defender, having already initiated formal contact over a potential move to Old Trafford.

Aston Villa, fresh from winning the Europa League, are also closely monitoring Anton and represent significant competition for the player’s signature this summer.

Ekrem Konur reports that Dortmund are reluctant to sell but could consider offers in the region of £30m to £34m for the Uzbekistan-born international.

Persistent fitness concerns surrounding Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez have pushed the club to actively explore defensive reinforcements ahead of a heavier fixture schedule next season.

Harry Maguire has recently extended his contract at Old Trafford, with Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro also available options for manager Michael Carrick heading into the new campaign.

Securing a defensively resilient, experienced centre-back of Anton’s quality for around £34m would represent shrewd and timely business for United.
