Manchester United are actively pursuing West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, with journalist Fabrizio Romano confirming the club has already made contact with his representatives.
Romano stated: “Man Utd have already called his agents to understand the situation, and he’s on their list. There are also other clubs interested in the Premier League, and PSG are also there too.”
The Dutch winger is valued at around £50m and has attracted significant attention following an impressive season despite West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League last term.
Romano also made clear that a summer exit from West Ham is inevitable for the 26-year-old, saying: “A player like Summerville can’t play in the second division, it’s just a question of when not if Summerville is going to leave West Ham in the summer transfer window.”
United manager Michael Carrick faces the dual challenge of competing in the Premier League and returning to the Champions League in the 2026/27 season.
The club spent over £200m on attacking reinforcements last summer, but the departure of academy graduate Marcus Rashford has created a pressing need for further depth in forward areas.
AC Milan’s Rafael Leao has also been mentioned as a potential target, with the Portuguese international having expressed his desire to move to the Premier League, potentially available for as little as £40m.
Arsenal are also credited with an interest in Leao, meaning United face competition if they pursue the 26-year-old as an alternative to Summerville.
West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has emerged as United’s primary midfield target this summer, and a potential double signing alongside Summerville carries particular appeal at Old Trafford.
The pair directly combined for two goals during Nuno Espírito Santo’s side’s relegation campaign last season, meaning a reunion at United could offer a seamless transition for both players.
Summerville registered five goals and two assists in the Premier League last term despite West Ham’s difficult campaign, demonstrating his individual quality regardless of team circumstances.
His performances have carried into the ongoing World Cup in the USA, where he has contributed two goals and an assist in just 115 minutes of action on the international stage.
The winger, dubbed “sensational” by former coach Andrew Taylor, has posted a 67% dribble success rate at the tournament, a tally higher than that of 80% of players competing.
His 1.6 shots on target per 90 at the World Cup further underlines his attacking threat, and those numbers suggest he could thrive alongside Fernandes in United’s midfield structure.
Fernandes himself is said to favour a move to Old Trafford, though he could command a fee of around £85m, which would make him one of United’s most expensive signings in history.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson was previously considered United’s top midfield target, but his £120m valuation has cooled interest in the 23-year-old considerably.
Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring Fernandes, meaning United must move quickly if they are to secure the 21-year-old Portuguese international ahead of rival clubs.
INEOS are being urged to approach this transfer window with an open mind, addressing not just midfield needs but also the attacking depth required for a gruelling campaign across multiple competitions.
Summerville’s World Cup displays have done little to dampen the interest from clubs across Europe, and United’s early approach to his agents suggests they are serious about completing a deal.
With Champions League football returning to Old Trafford next season, Carrick will need the calibre of player that Summerville has shown himself to be on football’s biggest stages.
