Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Newcastle United are all reportedly interested in signing Chelsea forward Liam Delap this summer transfer window.
Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs revealed the interest from multiple Premier League clubs, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel.
Chelsea purchased Delap last summer after being impressed by his performances at Ipswich Town, despite failing to prevent the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
During his time at Ipswich, the 23-year-old scored 12 goals and registered two assists across 37 Premier League appearances, showcasing his ability at the top flight level.
However, his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge proved difficult, with fitness problems playing a significant role in his struggles throughout the season.
Delap managed to score only twice in 41 appearances in all competitions last term, a return that fell well below the expectations Chelsea had when they brought him in.
Jacobs said: “I think that Liam Delap could be one to watch from Chelsea, another club that Tottenham wouldn’t normally do too much business with. Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham, the three clubs that like Delap. Before we can clarify whether anything is going to develop there, Delap wants to stay and fight for his place.”
Despite the reported interest from multiple clubs, Delap himself is keen to remain at Chelsea and compete for a starting position under manager Xabi Alonso.
The English forward is valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt and is contracted to the West London club until 2031, meaning Chelsea hold significant leverage in any potential negotiations.
Tottenham are embarking on a rebuild under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, with the Italian keen to strengthen multiple positions across the squad this summer.
Everton’s interest stems from their own attacking concerns, with Beto set to enter the final year of his contract having delivered inconsistent performances since arriving from Udinese.
Thierno Barry, another forward option at Everton, endured a below-average debut Premier League campaign, adding further urgency to manager David Moyes’ plans to reinforce the striker position.
Despite his difficult season at Chelsea, Delap is still just 23 years old and widely regarded as a player with considerable potential who has yet to reach his peak years.
Any club hoping to sign Delap this summer will likely need to meet a substantial asking price from Chelsea, given both his contract length and the fee they paid to acquire him.
