Wolverhampton Wanderers are pushing to return to the Premier League and have identified goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as a key summer transfer target.

The Midlands club’s early relegation gave them a significant head start in planning their squad rebuild under manager Rob Edwards.

Wolves must address departures first, with Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes expected to leave Molineux in the coming months.

On the incoming front, experienced full-back Kieran Trippier appears set to arrive, having featured in the Champions League just months ago despite being 35.

According to Sky Sports, Wolves are now eyeing a move to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson this summer.

Sky Sports revealed Patterson is “available” if interested clubs meet an asking price of between £8m and £10m.

Patterson spent the second half of the season on loan at Millwall, helping them reach the playoffs before they ultimately fell short.

Millwall are interested in making that loan move permanent, but face competition from Wolves for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Neither Sam Johnstone nor Jose Sa have been consistent enough over the last 12 months, leaving the door open for a new goalkeeper to arrive.

Patterson’s promotion experience in the Championship makes him particularly valuable for a club chasing an immediate return to the top flight.

Sunderland teammate Simon Moore offered glowing praise for the goalkeeper in 2024, telling reporters: “Patto is right up there [with keepers I’ve worked with].”

Moore continued: “I’ve followed him for a while even before I came here and he’s class, he pulls off some unbelievable saves. He’s underrated with the ball at his feet as well, calm and composed. His handling is excellent, he can without a shadow of a doubt play at the top.”

At just 26 years old, Patterson is considered to be at the peak of his powers and represents strong value at the reported asking price.

Wolves will need to move decisively if they are to beat Millwall and any other potential suitors to his signature this window.
