Liverpool and Arsenal are both chasing Dutch fullback Lutsharel Geertruida this summer, with a deal potentially available for just £21m, according to CaughtOffside.
The 25-year-old has built a strong reputation in European football, having established himself as one of the Eredivisie’s premier right-backs during an outstanding spell with Feyenoord.
Geertruida made his senior debut for Feyenoord in October 2017 and quickly became a cornerstone of the Rotterdam club’s defensive setup.
He captained Feyenoord on numerous occasions and went on to accumulate 202 appearances for the club, contributing 24 goals and 11 assists before departing for Germany.
His move to RB Leipzig followed that impressive Feyenoord tenure, but his chapter in the Bundesliga proved relatively short-lived, with just 35 appearances made for the German club.
Last summer he joined Sunderland on loan, where he emerged as one of the standout performers of the recently concluded Premier League campaign under manager Régis Le Bris.
Despite having three years remaining on his Leipzig contract, several clubs are now interested in securing his services permanently this summer.
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have added the 6ft 1in defender to their shortlist of right-back targets due to his top-flight experience and ability to play in different positions.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are exploring tactically fitting players to Andoni Iraola’s style of play and view Geertruida as a modern fullback who is efficient on the ball and reliable defensively.
The Netherlands international could represent strong value at £21m, giving either club an opportunity to secure a versatile and proven Premier League performer at a bargain price.
Geertruida would serve as quality cover and a reliable squad option at whichever club he joins ahead of a demanding upcoming campaign.
However, the fullback is expected to consider the prospect of regular playing time, which could give Liverpool a slight advantage given that Timber is Mikel Arteta’s undisputed starter at right back.
