Celtic are closing in on a move for Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, with the club’s board preparing a formal offer worth approximately £7 million.
Journalist Pablo Oliveira reports that Celtic are optimistic about signing Hassan and that the club want to seal a deal “as soon as possible.”
The 24-year-old Egypt international caught Celtic’s eye with his performances across two seasons in Spain, offering pace, directness and technical quality in wide areas.
Hassan is naturally left-footed but usually operates from the right, allowing him to drive inside or create space for an overlapping full-back.
That variety could prove particularly valuable for manager Martin O’Neill when facing Scottish Premiership opponents who consistently deploy a low block against Celtic.
His goal return is not spectacular, but his wider record helps explain the interest from Glasgow’s east end.
Hassan bagged four goals and three assists across 39 league appearances as Real Oviedo won promotion in the 2024/25 season.
During their following La Liga campaign, which ended in relegation, he managed three assists for Oviedo, who struggled at the bottom throughout the season.
Nevertheless, the Spanish top flight is one of the toughest leagues in world football, and there is every reason to believe he could shine at Celtic Park.
His career has given him exposure to a range of different environments and demands across European football.
Hassan developed in France, moved to Villarreal, and gained second-tier experience with Mirandés and Sporting Gijón before establishing himself at Oviedo.
He represented France at youth level, including at the Under-17 World Cup, but now plays senior international football for Egypt and featured at the World Cup this summer.
Celtic would be backing a quick, technical winger whose best years should still be ahead of him, with O’Neill needing more options capable of creating something from nothing.
Marseille have also been credited with interest in the player, meaning Celtic may need to act quickly if they want to control negotiations.
Hassan signed a contract running until June 2027, and reports in Spain and Scotland have placed his release clause at around £10 million.
A £7 million proposal would fall below that figure, although Oviedo’s relegation and Hassan entering the final year of his deal means they must consider any serious approach.
Villarreal are reportedly entitled to a large percentage of any future transfer fee, which may make Oviedo less willing to accept a heavily discounted offer.
Hassan has spoken openly about the possibility of leaving, acknowledging the business side of football and suggesting no player at the club should be considered certain to stay.
Celtic have a realistic opportunity here, and Oliveira’s update points firmly towards an imminent formal approach from the Hoops board.
