Chelsea have completed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, with the England international putting pen to paper on a contract until 2033.
The deal is worth a British record £117m, making Rogers one of the most expensive players in the history of English football.
Despite serious interest from Arsenal, Rogers chose Chelsea after holding talks with new manager Xabi Alonso, according to a report citing David Ornstein.
Rogers becomes the latest addition to Chelsea’s summer rebuild, following the earlier arrivals of Marco Palestra from Atalanta and Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP.
The 23-year-old spent last season at Aston Villa, where he scored ten goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League alone.
Across all competitions, Rogers delivered 26 goal contributions, including eight in 15 Europa League appearances as Villa ended their 30-year wait for a major trophy.
Rogers was named Player of the Tournament as Villa lifted the Europa League, cementing his reputation as one of England’s most exciting attacking talents.
Speaking after completing his move, the 22-cap England international made clear how much the transfer means to him personally.
“I’m so excited,” said Rogers. “For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.”
“I’m really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we’ve got and where the club is heading. That’s why I’m here, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Rogers will wear the No.17 shirt at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea confirming the detail alongside official photos of the player in his new kit.
His versatility across midfield and attack is expected to make him a natural fit within the high-intensity system Alonso is building at the club.
Beyond his ability to score from inside the box, Rogers also poses a threat from distance, which could prove vital against teams that defend deep.
His combination of attacking quality, relentless work rate, and constant movement off the ball makes him an ideal profile for Alonso’s demanding style of play.
