Douglas Luiz has set his sights on joining Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, as the Brazilian midfielder seeks a fresh start this summer.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan in the Premier League, enduring difficult spells at both Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.
His time at Forest was particularly disappointing, managing just 14 appearances before the club cut short his loan in January.
He then reunited with Villa, who were suffering an injury crisis involving Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara, and John McGinn at the time.
Despite the reunion, Luiz played a minor role at Villa Park, clocking just over 800 minutes across 21 appearances during the second half of the season.
Having returned to Juventus, the Vasco da Gama graduate does not appear to have a future under manager Luciano Spalletti.
Tuttosport report that Luiz sees a return to Brazil as a “last resort” and instead dreams of joining Manchester United on a permanent basis.
A swap deal has been touted as a possible mechanism, given Juventus’s ongoing interest in landing United striker Joshua Zirkzee.
However, United may prefer to keep the two deals separate, and Tuttosport report the Red Devils are ready to accept a loan deal with a buy obligation for Zirkzee.
The situation is complicated by the fact that United have already added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to their midfield this summer, with Roma’s Manu Kone also a reported target.
Luiz boasts 196 Premier League appearances and was one of England’s most dynamic midfielders during the 2023/24 season, registering 20 goal contributions for Aston Villa.
A series of injuries since then have hampered his momentum, and he no longer appears to be the same player who attracted widespread top-club interest two years ago.
United may ultimately prefer a younger profile, with Kone standing out following an impressive showing in France’s midfield at the World Cup.
Whether a deal materialises remains uncertain, but Luiz’s preference is clear as he looks to rebuild his career in the Premier League rather than return home.
