Liverpool have made a formal approach to Monaco over a deal to sign French international forward Maghnes Akliouche this summer, according to Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old came through Monaco’s academy and made his debut for the club on 16 October 2021 in a 2-0 loss to Lyon.
Since that debut, Akliouche has gone on to make 139 appearances for Les Rouge et Blanc, establishing himself as one of their most important players.
In the recently concluded season, he remained a regular starter under both Adi Hütter and newly appointed head coach Sébastien Pocognoli.
Akliouche netted seven goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions, earning him a place in Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad for the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
That level of consistency has attracted significant attention during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool now entering the race for his signature.
However, the Reds face stern competition from Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, who have already seen several offers for the Frenchman rejected by Monaco.
PSG’s latest bid of £34m was turned away, meaning any interested club will likely need to meet or exceed Akliouche’s £42m Transfermarkt valuation to secure a deal.
Predominantly a number 10 by trade, the French forward is equally comfortable operating as a left-footed right winger, giving him tactical versatility across the front line.
His shot volume of fewer than two per 90 minutes suggests he does not regularly cut inside in search of goal, but the quality of his attempts is notably high, sitting at 0.15 xG per shot.
That figure points to a player who consistently finds himself in promising shooting positions, even if those opportunities do not arrive with great frequency across a full match.
Akliouche also stood out for high turnovers won, with his eagerness to press and regain possession high up the pitch making him a natural fit for Andoni Iraola’s intense, high-tempo system at Anfield.
Liverpool have explored the possibility of bringing the France international to Merseyside, though besting PSG in a transfer battle will require a compelling financial offer from the club.
