Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move to sign Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to a report from The Athletic.
The 21-year-old initially joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea in 2023 before the deal was made permanent the following year, gradually establishing himself at St James’ Park.
Hall helped Newcastle win the EFL Cup last year and registered three goal contributions across 47 appearances in all competitions during his most recent campaign.
Michael Carrick’s side are said to be interested in Hall specifically if they decide to strengthen the left-back position before the September 1st transfer deadline.
Newcastle hold Hall on a contract running until 2029, meaning the club are under no pressure to sell, with Transfermarkt valuing the defender at around £34m.
The Magpies have already parted with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, while Bruno Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a departure, making Eddie Howe keen to retain Hall.
Hall is regarded as a technically gifted, left-footed defender who is comfortable in possession, capable of threading passes through lines, and effective when dribbling in tight areas.
Luke Shaw has been United’s first-choice left-back since arriving from Southampton, but the 31-year-old has suffered persistent fitness issues and is entering the final year of his contract.
Patrick Dorgu was signed as a potential long-term successor to Shaw, though the Danish international has shown his best form operating as a winger rather than a fullback.
United also have academy prospects Harry Amass and Diego Leon in their ranks, but the club are reportedly considering selling Amass while Leon is not yet considered ready for first-team football.
Hall represents a Premier League-proven option who still has significant room for development, making him an attractive long-term target for the Old Trafford club.
Whether Carrick’s side ultimately lodge a concrete offer for the Newcastle defender before the summer window closes remains to be seen.
