Newcastle United are pursuing two Tottenham Hotspur players this summer as Eddie Howe looks to reshape his squad following a turbulent few weeks.
The Magpies have launched an enquiry for versatile full-back Djed Spence, while also tabling a £46m bid for Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall that Spurs have already rejected.
Newcastle’s summer has been defined by high-profile departures, with Anthony Gordon sold to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali moving to Tottenham earlier in the window.
The situation has been further complicated by Bruno Guimaraes, who has reportedly told the club he wants to force through a move to Arsenal.
With their captain’s future hanging in the balance, Newcastle moved quickly to identify midfield reinforcements by targeting Bergvall as a potential replacement.
Spurs rejected Newcastle’s opening offer for the midfielder, but the Magpies are understood to be preparing an improved proposal in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the left-back position has become a pressing priority at St James’ Park, with Lewis Hall poised to demand either a starting role or permission to join Manchester United.

With Hall’s future increasingly uncertain, Newcastle have turned their attention to Spence, who starred on the left side of defence during England’s World Cup campaign.
The 25-year-old arrived at Tottenham in a £20m deal from Middlesbrough in July 2022, but has struggled for consistent minutes under Roberto De Zerbi, playing six times last season with only one start at left-back.
Spence is expected to leave North London in search of more regular football, though his preference for Champions League football could complicate Newcastle’s chances following a difficult 2025/26 campaign.
There is also reported interest from Inter, adding further competition to any potential deal for the England international.
Newcastle have also joined the race for Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams, tracking the Wales international as another potential solution at left-back.
Williams was one of Forest’s standout performers as they avoided relegation last season, scoring twice, providing three assists, and averaging 2.6 tackles per game.
That tackling figure was only bettered in the Forest squad by Elliot Anderson, who joined the club in a £116m deal, highlighting just how important Williams was to their defensive efforts.
Forest are determined to keep hold of the 25-year-old, entering talks over a bumper new contract to fend off interest from both Newcastle and Tottenham, who have also shortlisted Williams as a potential Spence replacement.
