Newcastle United have reshaped their squad significantly ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season under new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Jaissle takes the reins following Eddie Howe’s departure, with the change in management coming just weeks before the new season gets underway.
The club has already navigated the high-profile sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, two of the most important players from recent seasons.
Tonali has joined Tottenham in a deal worth up to £100m, making it Newcastle’s second-largest sale in their history behind only Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool.
Gordon departs for Barcelona for around £69m, having been a key figure in the Magpies’ recent success and a standout performer for England at the World Cup.
On the incoming side, Bazoumana Toure arrives from Hoffenheim for £42m, with the Ivorian winger having scored five goals and provided nine assists in the Bundesliga last season.
Aladji Bamba joins from Monaco for around £34m to add defensive midfield depth, while Ewen Jaouen arrives from Stade Reims for £24m as a goalkeeping option for the future.
Sean Steur completes a £23m switch from Ajax, rounding out a quartet of new arrivals tasked with helping Jaissle build his vision at St James’ Park.
Among the departures, Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett have both left on free transfers, joining Wolves and Hull City respectively, as the squad undergoes a significant generational shift.
Joe White has dropped down to League Two with Crewe Alexandra, while Harrison Ashby heads to Luton Town on loan, and both Emil Krafth and John Ruddy have been released.
Newcastle’s all-time record signing remains Nick Woltemade, who joined from Stuttgart in 2025 for around £69m including add-ons, having contributed 11 goals and five assists in his debut season.
Their record sale remains Alexander Isak, sold to Liverpool in 2025 for £125m, a British transfer record at the time, with the striker having gone on strike for weeks to force through the move.
Newcastle reinvested those Isak funds into Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, and the club will hope Jaissle can now forge a competitive unit from a squad still finding its new identity.
