Tottenham Hotspur have joined the battle to sign AFC Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, according to a report from the Mirror.
The Lilywhites have been on a remarkable spending spree this summer under head coach Roberto De Zerbi after finishing 17th in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.
Spurs have already addressed their defensive frailties by bringing in Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke during this transfer window.
The club has also significantly strengthened their midfield, completing deals for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
Despite that midfield investment, the Mirror reports Tottenham are now targeting Scott as another potential addition to their rebuilt squad.
The 22-year-old faces no shortage of suitors, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City all reportedly tracking his situation closely.
Chelsea have already made their move, submitting an opening proposal worth £64 million, which Bournemouth swiftly rejected as insufficient for their prized asset.
Scott’s contract at Vitality Stadium runs until 2028, and the Cherries are determined to keep him, having offered fresh terms, but the midfielder has turned down that proposal with a view to leaving the club.
Chelsea remain Scott’s preferred destination, though Bournemouth continue to hold out hope they can persuade him to commit his future to the club.
Scott is a versatile operator who is comfortable in both a box-to-box role and a more defensive midfield position, having developed significantly since arriving from Bristol City.
He was a key contributor as Bournemouth finished sixth in the Premier League last season, helping them secure a Europa League place for the campaign ahead.
Questions remain, however, over whether Tottenham genuinely need to add another central midfielder given their recent acquisitions of Fernandes and Tonali, and the fact they will not be in European competition next season.
Many analysts would argue their transfer budget could be better directed toward strengthening an attacking department that struggled to fire consistently last season.
Whether Spurs make a concrete move for Scott or whether the deal ultimately lands at Chelsea or another rival remains one of the most compelling transfer stories of the summer window.
