West Ham United enter the Championship for the 2026/27 season aiming to bounce back after a hugely disappointing Premier League campaign that ended in relegation.
The summer transfer window has been defined far more by high-profile departures than new arrivals, with the club generating enormous sums from player sales.
Mateus Fernandes headlined the outgoings with a blockbuster £85m switch to Tottenham, representing a massive profit on the £42m West Ham paid Southampton for him back in 2022.
That deal makes the Fernandes sale comfortably the club’s second-biggest transfer in history, sitting only behind Declan Rice’s £105m move to Arsenal in 2023.
Crysencio Summerville has also left the club, joining Al-Hilal for £55m, while Lucas Paqueta has returned to his homeland with Flamengo in a £36.5m deal.
Paqueta, West Ham’s record signing at £51m when he arrived from Lyon in 2022, scored 23 times and provided 15 assists across 139 appearances for the Hammers before departing.
In total, West Ham completed three of their five biggest sales of all time in summer 2026, generating well over £170m from the trio of major departures.
Callum Marshall has dropped down to League One with Luton Town for an undisclosed fee, while striker Callum Wilson has joined Brentford on a free transfer.
Adama Traore has been released as a free agent, and long-serving goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has announced his retirement from professional football.
On the incoming side, Venezuelan winger Keiber Lamadrid has joined from Deportivo La Guaira for around £1m, the club’s only official new signing of the summer window so far.
Ezra Mayers, George Earthy, and Finlay Herrick have all been promoted from West Ham’s Under-21 squad into the first-team setup under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
With significant funds in the bank from their summer sales, West Ham are expected to reinvest more heavily in their squad as the transfer window progresses toward its deadline.
The Hammers will look to build around captain Jarrod Bowen as they target an immediate return to the Premier League from the second tier.
