West Ham’s ownership picture is shifting significantly after a consortium led by Amanda Staveley agreed to purchase a 25.1% stake in the Championship club.
Vanessa Gold, daughter of former chair David Gold, confirmed she has reached an agreement to sell her family’s shareholding to Staveley and her partners.
The deal comes after a previously agreed sale to fellow shareholder and Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky collapsed, leaving the Gold family’s stake without a buyer.
Staveley is joined in the consortium by Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners, the same group that engineered the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United in October 2021.
Under Staveley and Ghodoussi’s stewardship, Newcastle transformed from Premier League relegation candidates into Champions League participants before the pair departed during the summer of 2024.
The sale of the Gold family stake remains subject to a pre-emption process, meaning existing West Ham shareholders retain the option to purchase the shares instead.
Vanessa Gold said: “On June 12, Daniel Kretinsky and I agreed a sale that would have made EP Group the single largest shareholder in West Ham. Unfortunately, since that time, the original deal and other alternatives that we have discussed could not be brought to fruition.”
Gold added: “Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners will bring deep experience and understanding of what it takes to lead a successful football club, and I have every confidence in what she and her partners can bring to West Ham.”
West Ham were relegated from the Premier League last season, just two seasons after winning the Europa Conference League in 2023, making the ownership question particularly pressing.
Gold expressed pride in the legacy she maintained following her father’s passing, saying: “Over the past three years I have taken huge personal pride in continuing that legacy and will always be hugely grateful to the staff, players and fans who allowed me to do so.”
She also made clear that securing the right leadership was her primary motivation throughout the sale process, with a return to the Premier League firmly in mind.
The Hammers will kick off their Championship campaign at Burnley on 16 August as they begin the push for an immediate return to the top flight.
