Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, with journalist Nicolo Schira reporting the deal is at its “final stage.”
The Brazilian midfielder has been Arsenal’s primary midfield target this summer, driven by his outstanding and consistent performances in the Premier League.
Guimarães has appeared in 195 games for Newcastle across four seasons, contributing an impressive 63 goal involvements during his time at the club.
He registered 17 goal involvements in all competitions last season alone, cementing his reputation as one of the division’s most effective midfielders.
The midfielder famously captained Newcastle to a historic Carabao Cup victory in March 2025, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy since 1955.
At international level, Guimarães has become a fixture in the Brazil squad since debuting in November 2020, earning 47 more caps since his debut.
He was also a standout performer at the World Cup, contributing four assists and matching the joint second-highest tally in the tournament alongside Lionel Messi, Martin Ødegaard, Kylian Mbappé, and Brahim Diaz.
Schira reports the transfer fee is set at £77m, with only the final details remaining before the deal is formalised on a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe previously described Guimarães as “world class,” a sentiment backed up by his remarkable statistics throughout his Premier League career.
The Brazilian finished the most recent Premier League season among the top five players in the division for both line-breaking passes, with 46, and through balls, recording 21 for the campaign.
Since completing his first full Premier League season, Guimarães has featured in more than 85% of available league minutes, placing him among the competition’s most durable and consistent performers.
His ability to control tempo, unlock defences from deep, and sustain elite output over a full season makes him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s demands at Arsenal.
With the transfer now approaching its conclusion, attention will quickly turn to how Arteta deploys his new midfield options as Arsenal target dominance both domestically and in Europe.
