Piero Hincapie’s loan was made permanent, with the Ecuador international able to cover both central defence and the left side of the backline.
The most significant arrival, however, was Bruno Guimarães, who joined from Newcastle United in a deal worth £75 million.
The Brazilian midfielder slots into a department already containing Declan Rice, Martín Zubimendi, Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze, making Arsenal’s engine room one of the most formidable in European football.
Arsenal also reached the Champions League final this past season before falling to PSG, meaning the squad is being built with both domestic and European ambitions firmly in mind.
There has been movement out of the club as well, with Christian Norgaard joining Everton and Jakub Kiwior completing a permanent switch to Porto.
Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri have also attracted interest from elsewhere, and further departures could follow before the window closes.
The most pressing concern for Arteta, however, is defensive cover, with William Saliba recovering from a back injury sustained at the World Cup and Jurrien Timber not yet fit following a groin problem.
Those two absences have left Arsenal short of senior options at the back as they begin their title defence, and the club has moved to address that issue directly.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are in the final stages of talks with Aston Villa over a deal for Ezri Konsa, with the transfer described as 99 per cent complete.
The package is expected to be worth between £60 million and £65 million, representing a significant outlay for a defender entering the final stages of his prime years.
Konsa has reportedly told Villa that he wants the move, further accelerating progress on a deal that has been building momentum throughout the week.
The England international featured regularly for Thomas Tuchel’s side at the World Cup and is comfortable operating at centre back or right back.
His ability to defend the spaces left behind a high press and his experience playing out from the back under Unai Emery at Villa Park make him a natural fit for Arteta’s system.
His arrival could have consequences for Ben White, who has slipped down the defensive pecking order and endured two injury-disrupted seasons in succession.
However, some caution is warranted, as other reports suggest Villa have held firm on their valuation and that Arsenal have opened discussions with Bayer Leverkusen over Jarell Quansah as an alternative option.
Until a formal agreement is announced by either club, the Konsa deal should not be considered finalised regardless of how advanced the negotiations appear.
