Everton are reportedly locked in a fierce transfer battle with multiple Premier League clubs to sign Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo this summer.
The 25-year-old has attracted widespread interest after a productive campaign with the Portuguese giants, registering 11 goal contributions in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Catamo joined Sporting at Jose Alvalade Stadium in 2023, initially serving as a rotational option before establishing himself as a regular starter last season.
His performances at club level have also earned him a regular place in the Mozambique national team’s starting line-up, underlining his growing status.
According to TEAMtalk, Everton have been impressed by the forward’s eye-catching displays and have made checks ahead of a potential move.
However, the Toffees face serious competition, with Aston Villa, Fulham, Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion all reportedly pursuing the same target.
Sunderland are said to be in pole position to seal the deal, with Catamo understood to be open to joining the Stadium of Light club.
Although Catamo’s current contract contains a £51m release clause, Sporting are reportedly willing to accept a discounted fee of around £34m given he has entered the final two years of his deal.
The Portuguese club are considered a selling outfit, meaning they are prepared to sanction his departure during this transfer window.
Catamo is predominantly a left-footed right-winger, though he is capable of operating on the opposite flank, offering versatility to any potential suitor.
His strengths include pace, the ability to dribble past defenders in tight spaces, and a strong work ethic when his side does not have possession.
Everton’s interest in a right-sided forward comes after Tyler Dibling, signed from Southampton last summer for a significant fee, struggled to nail down a place in David Moyes’ starting eleven.
With Catamo aged 25 and at the peak of his career, he represents an appealing option for any club willing to meet Sporting’s asking price.
